Good morning Lord! How are You doin’?
I’ve never spoken to you before
And this prayer thing is new to me.
You see, Lord, my family and friends have always
Told me that you don’t exist.
Like a fool I believed their foolishness.
Last night while in my foxhole, I looked up
And saw a cross made of heavenly bodies.
Right then and there I realized I’d been lied to.
If I’d just taken a little time to just look around I’d see that living things
Are in order as are the heaven.
That can’t have happened by accident.
Lord, I wonder if You can ever forgive me for being so dad burn stupid!
Somehow I feel you’d understand ‘cause
I believe you’re bigger than my ignorance.
Funny, Lord, that I had to come to my awareness of You
In the belly of a foxhole.
Before I had time to know who You really are.
Lord, as I said before, I really don’t know how to pray
But I’m sure glad I met You before it’s too late.
I’m really happy I’m having this talk with You
Before I have to go off to war somewhere.
Lord, I’ve never been in a real war.
But I feel that this moment is the most important day of my life.
If I should have to go off to war to defend my nation’s freedom,
Let me do so knowing You and having a relationship with You first.
I don’t fear for myself any longer for I now know You.
I realize that You will be by my side.
Though I wasn’t too friendly towards You,
I wonder if You’d be there for more of my training.
Thank You for being with me here in this foxhole.
Funny, since I met You this day, I don’t fear having to defend my nation.
Thanks Lord—good-bye! Amen.
