Cleansing Prayer

As one who is involved in many areas of ministry in the diocese, I have adopted a model of prayer that prepares me for service. It may seem familiar to you, but it is based on the concept of “praying the scriptures”. I encourage all persons involved in ministry, no matter the degree or level to use similar prayers as you prepare yourself for service. This is one prayer that I use for myself and others working in the chapels of renewal weekends, like Cursillo, Alpha, Faith Alive to name a few. I trust that it will be just as beneficial to you. [ You will note that it personalised, you make changes if you are using the prayer in a group setting.]

“Abba Father: In your word You have told me [us] to put on the Lord Jesus Christ and make no provision for the flesh as it regards its lusts [Romans 12:14]. I confess that I [we] have given in to fleshly lusts that wage war against the soul [I Peter 2:11]. But I thank you Father, that in Christ my sins are forgiven, even if I have transgressed your holy law and open a door to the enemy to wage war against me [us] [Romans 6:12-13, James. 4:1, I Peter 5:8].

I [we] come to the throne of grace and acknowledge my [our] sins seeking your cleansing [I John. 1:9] that I [we] may be free from the bondage of sin and guilt and, I [we] ask that You reveal to me [us] all the ways that I [we] have disobeyed your moral law and grieved your Holy Spirit. These sins I [we] confess to you and claim by the power of the blood of Jesus Christ, my [our] saviour and redeemer forgiveness and cleansing.

By the redeeming power of the blood of Jesus I [we] claim cleansing from the influence that evil spirits have gained through my [our] wilful involvement in sin. I ask this in the name that is above every name, Jesus Christ.

I [we] hereby reject and disclaim all the sins of my [our] ancestors, cancelling out all demonic workings that have been passed down through the generations. I do this in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. I [we] renounce all evil assignments that are directed towards me [us] and my [our] ministry and I [we] cancel every curse that the enemy has put on me [us].

In the name of Jesus the Christ, I remind the enemy and all his forces that the blood shed on Calvary was for me [us] and declare that I [we] am eternally and completely signed over and committed to the Lord Jesus Christ, to do the Father's will now and always.

Gracious Father, fill me [us] now with your Holy Spirit. I [we] submit my [our] body to you as an instrument of righteousness and, as a living sacrifice that will bring honour and glory to your Name. Renew my [our] mind to believe that your will is good, perfect, and acceptable for me.

This I do in the name and the authority of the Lord Jesus Christ.”

This prayer has been a blessing to me and my ministry and I believe it will be helpful to you as well. Remember that this is a guide only and you are to be guided by the Holy Spirit what scriptures to use and the intent of the prayer.

Some nice thoughts. All the parentheses distracted me. I think the piece would work better if you could eliminate some of them. Thank you for sharing this with us. God bless. Karen
