“What meanest thou, O sleeper? Arise, call upon thy God, if so be that God will think upon us, that we perish not.” Jonah 1:6 – KJV
Do we, as Jonah did, vainly flee from the presence of the Lord? Have we forsaken prayer as we serve our own selfish desires?
An awesome responsibility and privilege has been given to us. As God’s children we are the light leading a blind world to the door which is Jesus Christ. How many people has God placed in our lives who are in need of salvation? We may be the only Christian these people know.
Jesus said we would do even greater works than He did (John 14:12). This promise is fulfilled by the power of prayer! Why then are our prayers cold while so many are dying around us? “The effectual, fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much (James 5:16-KJV).” Isn’t our lack of prayer evidence of our doubt and unbelief?
The Lord “is not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance (2 Peter 3:9-KJV)” and if we pray according to his will we know that we have that thing that we ask of Him (1 John 5:15). Awake O sleeper and as the Scripture says, let us call upon our God and see the salvation of the Lord in the lives around us.

Amen! Amen! And amen! Powerful Word! May we begin to see the salvation of the Lord God Almighty hit our homes and families with great force, beyond that of which we know how to pray for!
Lord, may I slumber no more. At break of day may I search for You, so that at noontide, I shall not fail to find that soul You wish me to feed. Wise and impactful words, Crista. Thank you!
Oh yes Crista, may we awake and see the salvation of the Lord sweep across our land. That too is the prayer and the ache of my heart. Blessings, Sharon
