Another light burned out tonight, we’ll see his flame no more.
While others go about their way, his family’s left to mourn.
Once brightly glowing in the dark for all the world to see,
Now all that’s left are ashes of a tragic legacy.
While his candle flickered in and out his heart cried out in pain.
All he ever wanted was to be free from his chains.
It wasn’t his desire to be like those who’ve gone before.
His life would turn out different because he loved the Lord.
But while the monster chased him down he fought until the end.
How could anyone believe that someday he wouldn’t win?
Now a little boy cries hard tonight with no explanation why
His daddy’s gone and can’t come back. He didn’t get to say goodbye.
Another light burned out tonight but don’t let it be in vain.
When the monster tries to chase you down, don’t give in, just run away.
While the fire smolders in the dark, his scent will linger on
So that we’ll all remember that he’s never really gone.
He was just a light like you and me that burned out much too fast.
But the memories of who he was, he left for us to have.
And though we’ll mourn we can rejoice because of this one thing:
At last the war is over, he’s no longer suffering. He’s safe within his father’s arms and He’s finally at peace smiling up in heaven as he waits for you and me.
