And the LORD, he it is that doth go before thee; he will be with thee, he will not fail thee, neither forsake thee: fear not, neither be dismayed.
- Deuteronomy 31:8
Moses had faithfully led the children of Israel for forty years, but his time for leading was over. So God instructed him to hand over the leadership to Joshua.
What an awesome responsibility lay before Joshua. He now had to give an entire nation of people guidance and direction. Joshua knew that many challenges lay ahead. Perhaps he wondered if he had the strength to do what was needed. How could one man have the wisdom to lead so many?
What he needed now more than anything was an encouraging word. And Moses gave it to him. He told Joshua, “And the LORD, he it is that doth go before thee; he will be with thee, he will not fail thee, neither forsake thee: fear not, neither be dismayed.”
Joshua needed to know that he wouldn't be alone. God would be with him. Oh, how that must have cheered Joshua's heart! He didn't have to worry about leading the people by himself because God would be there every step of the way. Why fear when the creator of the universe is there by your side?
We're not alone either. When we gave our lives to Christ, God promised that he would never leave us. God desires to give us guidance and strength for whatever lies ahead. Whether it be leading a nation like Joshua or beginning a new job, God will not fail us. His promises are sure and his love is steady.
I don't know what challenges you may be facing right now, but God does. No matter how big the challenges may seem, remember that God is bigger. And he will be there for you if you trust in him. You're not alone.
