You Didn't Ask

You Didn't Ask

I was weak and I faltered.
I let others lead.
I followed so quickly -
I had such a need.

Why didn't you stop me?
"You didn't ask."

I gave in to the pressure
Even though it was wrong.
I could not resist.
I could not be strong.

Why didn't you stop me?
"You didn't ask."

I made bad decisions
And hurt those I loved.
I lined up my values
And gave them a shove!

Why didn't you stop me?
"You didn't ask."

Oh, wait just a minute,
I'm beginning to see…
If I had just asked you,
You would have helped me?

"That's right, my child.
Just reaching for me
Would have opened your heart
To be led lovingly.

But it's not too late -
I am right here for you.
If you take the first step,
I'll carry you through!

So, come and reach out.
I'll grab onto your hand
And never let go,
For I have a plan.

But in order to work,
I'll need your whole heart
For that is the key
That allows me to start.

A special creation
Will come out of this task.
You'll be born anew -
Are you ready to ask?"

Oh, how often I don't ask and barge into a situation in my own willfulness and pride. When the results are not to my liking, then I start asking God questions. Father forgive me and may I learn from past mistakes. A needful lesson wrapped in a wonderfully written poem. Bless you, Nancy

This reminds me of Proverbs 3:5-6. We can be assured of a straight path if we acknowledge and trust God instead of our own understanding. What a beautiful poem! Thank you for sharing.
