From the viewpoint of my mother, who was witness to the events, along with the doctors and nurses at
Saint Jude hospital. All of who agreed that “this was a miracle from the LORD”.
“ A Mother’s Plea”
At first, when my child became restless, I thought he had gotten a virus, or an earache. It was then,
I noticed the “spots”. Unlike anything I had ever seen, or heard about, my year and a half old baby
began showing purple blotches. So I called my husband and we decided to take him to St. Jude
hospital in California. The news I received after several doctors had seen him, nearly stopped my breath.
Two very serious looking doctors, called me into a private room to discuss the matter. To say the least,
I was not ready to hear what they were about to tell me. They closed the door, glanced at each other as
if to decide who was going to speak. The few seconds pause that ensued before they spoke seemed like
ten minutes...”Mrs. Monday, we are very sorry to have to tell you this, but it does not look like your son
is going to live”. Those words echoed in my mind, over and over, before I could bring myself to talk.
But what is wrong with him? I asked in near shock. “He has developed an acute case of spinal-
meningitis, the purple spots on him are called purporic spots, which are indicative at the onset
of this disease”. There is no cure, and most result in death. If he does live, he will be like a
vegetable, and will be twisted and disfigured, for life. We suggest that you pray that he does not
make it, for it would be horrific existence, for both you and he. I could not believe what I was
hearing....”Pray that my child die, you are telling me”? We are sorry, was all that they could muster.
I walked down the long hallway, and could not hardly even see for the flood of tears. No, I said
No I said. I could not accept what they were telling me to do! I was raised in a family that believed
in God, although I did not consider myself as one who lived the way that I knew I should.
I went into the prayer room, and the very first thing, I did was ask forgiveness. Lord I know,
that I do not serve you the way I should, and I have no right to ask you to perform a
miracle, but please don’t take my baby! If someone has to die, take me Lord! I said this
several times. It was then that I heard a booming voice speak and say, “ Ye do not bargain
with me”.....I shall take neither one! It was startling , yet a comfort at the same time.
The next time they let me see my son, his condition had worsened. As I watched, the
doctor placed his hand at the back of his neck, and gently lifted. His whole upper body raised
as he lifted on the back of his neck, for paralysis had already began to set in. It did not look good
at all. They had to give him numerous spinal taps for tests, and when they did, I could hear
all the way down the hall, him screaming his little head off. After two days of no sleep, I was
like a zombie, so they told me to go home and get some sleep, that he would be in good hands.
I could only hold on to the words that the Lord had spoke to me...” I shall take neither one”.
So I went home and collapsed, I told my husband what had happened in the prayer room,
but I could tell that he took the news with reservation, for he knew my state of mind was shaky
at best. The next morning, I woke with a start. The Lord was telling me “Go and get your child
from the hospital, for he is fine and ready to go home. When I called my husband to tell him,
Let us go and get our baby, for the Lord has completely healed him! He came and we went,
but by the silence in the car, on the way, I could tell that he was not sure what to make of it.
I walked in all smiles, and told the nursing supervisor that I had come to take my baby home.
But who have you spoken to about this? She asked...I told her that I had not spoke to anyone
at the hospital, but the Lord had assured me that he was ready to go home. She looked perplexed.
When the doctor came up he asked, Let me get this straight, you have not talked to anyone here
about the condition of your son? No I said, but the Lord told me that he is fine and ready to go home.
He called in another doctor and conferred with him a moment. The look on his face was that of
disbelief. He was told that sometime during the night, the paralysis had just left! They did a few more
spinal taps to confirm, what the last one had. There was no trace! He told me that he had seen
some things that he could not explain, in his day, but he said: Mrs. Monday I have no choice
but to say that this case, CAN ONLY BE A MIRACLE, FROM GOD! He gladly told me
that it was completely gone, and that I was ready to go home! Mom just smiled and praised
God, and thanked him for doing what He said He would do! Needless to say, there was much
joy and elation among the staff at the hospital, for they had seen proof with their own two eyes,
that GOD EXISTS!
