Sunsets are beautiful…doesn’t it seem like God is giving you a huge hug when you see one?
God certainly gave Dottie Rambo a huge hug when she saw a particular sunset one evening. Here is her own account on the writing of the song “We Shall Behold Him”.
I e-mailed her website (www.dottierambo.net) and she graciously responded via Larry Ferguson.
Question:
I heard that you saw the most beautiful sunset you have ever seen, and that was the beginning of the song (We Shall Behold Him) in your mind, it that true?
Answer:
We had been singing at a big Baptist conference and we had a lady singing with us named Patty who had taken Reba's place in the group. Patty had her car because we were in her hometown. Ordinarily we had to just pile up on the bus and get ready at the bus and you know how long us girls take to get ready. Patty and I were 7 miles from the conference and we were running late and I was driving the car and as I looked up I saw all these beautiful cloud formations and beautiful blues that I couldn't describe. The clouds looked like cherubs and angels and then I saw in a vision a white horse. One like the Clydesdale horses coming right at me and JESUS! I just started bawling and Patty said, "What's wrong? Are you sick?" I told her "you slide over here and take the wheel because the Lord just gave me a song" so in 7 minutes without pen or paper I wrote "We Shall Behold Him" We were both basket cases by the time we actually got to the conference. It was worth being late for!
Question:
Who or what prompted you to completely write the song, "We Shall Behold Him"?
Answer:
It just came. The Lord wrote that one and I held the pen! It was one of those times that you felt the Lord saying..."You have worked hard and been a good little girl so I am just going to give you this one free" and he just zapped me with it! I always say "Thank God Bill Gaither was fishing that day or he'd have got that one!” (says laughing).
The sky shall unfold
Preparing His entrance
The stars shall applaud Him
With thunders of praise
The sweet light in His eyes
Shall enhance those awaiting
And we shall behold Him
Then face to face
(First Verse:We Shall Behold Him)
Sunsets…Ending of day.
Time …winding down.
Bodies…growing weary.
Night… is coming.
Embrace the sunset…
for soon we shall behold Him, then face to face!

Happy New Year! I love the sunsets too. I wrote about a special one, and now you have prompted me to put it on faithwriters. You have a nice way of expressing what you share! Thank you!
