My Mom Tricia
By Deputy Rich Bear

Hi my name is Deputy Rich bear, I was made at a Build A Bear store in Bellevue, WA in July of 2002. My mother Tricia made me because she needed me for comfort after she saw coverage of the 911 tragedies and on June 22nd of 2002 she heard about a policeman named Richard Herzog was killed in a city not far from her home. This was hard on Tricia because she had a background in Public Safety but she couldn’t work in the field because of her numerous disabilities. A week later .she went to a nearby mall, she wanted something to help her cope with her feelings so, and she made me. The mall has a store named Build A Bear Workshop. Tricia had two bears from there already, a doctor bear and a nurse bear so, I had company that were build a bears. Tricia would tell me things that were secrets; she knew I would keep the things a secret. She felt like she could get messages to Deputy Rich in heaven, it was like she was still part of the Public Safety family she just was retired on disability.

When the year anniversary of 911 was observed one of, Tricia’s roommates invited her to a special service at her church. I could tell that she was changed when she got home, she had found a new home church and she had renewed her commitment to the Lord Jesus Christ. Because of her new faith she had a large church family and soon she began to serve in the church, mostly with children. I have even gone to church with her one day when she was helping with a group of four-year-old children. She told the kids about her rare immune disorder because the next day she was going to be gone to. Seattle Cancer Care Alliance for her IV treatment that helped build up her immunities.

I am the only Build A Bear that Tricia took with her on a cruise to the Western Caribbean and I was a big help, guarding her luggage and cabin. Also on the way home on the home on the airplane Tricia was crying, because she was in physical pain her legs were very swollen and she had to ride in a wheelchair pushed by friends and she was already missing people that she had met on the cruise. Some of them lived in other states. I was glad that she had me in her carry on bag so that she could cry on me.

Since the trip in the fall of 2003 Tricia has started to get in contact with other 911 dispatchers across the country through an Internet email group and she gave me a last name because she was touched by another officers death in Seattle. My name is now Deputy Rich Jackson Lone.
