When we look up the word blood we find out that it means the fluid consisting of plasma, blood cells, and platelets that is circulated by the heart in vertebrates, carrying oxygen and nutrients to and waste materials away from all body tissues (American Heritage dictionary). What I want to talk about is a different type of blood, similar, but different. That blood is the blood of Jesus. St. Matthew 26:27-28 says: And he took the cup and gave thanks and gave it to them saying: “Drink ye all of it; for this is my blood of the New Testament which is shed for many for the remission of sins”. As I read and receive revelation from that scripture, I realize that this blood is not just ordinary blood but precious blood.
The blood of Jesus is not normal. It is yoke destroying, burden removing blood. It is the blood that cleanses us from all unrighteousness. First John 1:7 mentions: “but if we walk in the light as he is in light we have fellowship one with another and the blood of Christ his son cleanseth us from all sin”. Not just some sin but all sin. The precious blood delivered from the power of death so that we could partake in the power of light. As I think about the innocent blood that was shed for my sins, my soul says thank you Jesus.
Second Corinthians 10:4 says “For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty through God to the pulling down of strongholds” Now our weapons are prayer, fasting the word of God and the Blood of Jesus, even the same blood that enables us to have eternal life. The precious blood gives us a second chance to begin life over but more intelligently. Because of this blood we are no longer children of wrath but children of God.
As I watched the “Passion of the Christ” I could hardly stand to see the flesh of our Lord Jesus ripped apart, each lash tearing into his skin causing him to bleed more profusely. As the Roman soldiers continued to beat him over and over, I said to myself stop beating him already. Although the blood covered the ground it did not go to waste. Even though I did not want him to get wiped like that, I`m glad he did. If he did not get beat like that and nailed to the cross there would be no salvation. The blood shedding was for the sins of the entire world.
When the soldiers finished beating Jesus, Mary his mother came with a towel and began to wipe the blood off the ground because of its preciousness and innocence. The ground was not worthy of his blood and neither were we. God felt that if he could find a way, he could save our souls from hell. That way was the blood of Jesus. Amen.
