When I heard you knocking, my door opened wide
Greeting you humbly, I asked you inside
You rearranged furniture; I swept the place clean
But today I realized I closed back the screen
The screen door is filtering all that comes in
Holiness will not cross the doorstep of sin
Screening my spirit and questioning why
Blocking the entrance as you’re walking by
I used to rise early to study your word
Now the shrill sound of my snooze alarm’s heard
I leave my door open-but now there’s a catch
Convenience is key to my front screen door’s latch
My threshold grows cold though my Savior’s in sight
The screen door has filtered out God’s warmth and light
Deep down inside my soul longs to be seen
I leave my door open, and unhinge the screen
