My face is smiling
And doing its part
To cloak the true feelings
Within my heart
Pretending life matters
With its unrelenting pace
In truth, my heart is breaking
As I long to see your face
My mind denies reality
As it prompts my heart to feel
a desire to see you, hear your voice,
Convince me your death isn’t real.
For one small precious moment
My mind and heart agree
That life is still the same as before
The nightmare is just a dream.
But it’s only the swiftest moment
Before my heart concedes,
Reality overcomes yearning
And truth must supercede need.
In truth, my heart is broken,
With this lonely chasm to bear.
Truly my life is forever changed
The dream is indeed a nightmare.
