Life is wind
cried Job the upright;
Full of tossing
to and fro,
Months of vanity,
wearisome night,
And became loathsome
not so long ago.
All is vanity
in the Preacher's sight;
As knowledge increase
so with sorrow.
Vexation of the spirit
'til we lose our might
Under the sun
life spent as a shadow.
For what is our life?
as James recite
It is even a vapour
vanishing tomorrow.
With little time
yet we kill and fight;
O vain man,
will you not know?
Now hear this
and listen with delight:
For a man's life,
as Christ said so,
counts not of possessions
all right;
And laid down His life
for all to follow.
