Elements of God ( 1Chapter on Lack of Communication )

Do you ask, “Why is communication so valuable?” First, let’s find out what communication is.
According to the Oxford Dictionary and Thesaurus, communication is defined as:
make known, impart, confer, transfer, hand on or down, share, pass on or along;
converse, talk, correspond;
be of one mind, be on the same wavelength.
But ask yourself, “Do I communicate well with others? Do I listen well? Do I use what I hear from others? Or do I listen because of who they are?”
Let’s discuss why communication is so important. Well, if there is no communication or if you are not communicating well with God, your pastor, your spouse, a teacher or maybe even your mentor, how can you get anything done effectively? How can you bless someone if you are not willing to communicate daily with God?
I am a man who likes to get things done. As a man of God, I know God has many blessings and things in store for my family and me but I have to get in His face and talk to Him. As much I like talking to Him, I have to be quiet sometimes and let Him massage my mind and heart so I can know what it is He wants me to do. He loves to reward those who serve Him, but do not waste your prayer time with: “Lord I need…”, “Lord bless me with...”, “Lord please help me get…” and “Lord give me ....” It is not bad to ask our Heavenly Father for things that we need, but we need to spend our time blessing Him because of who He is, not just for what we can get from Him.
In order to show why communication is important, read the following:
Genesis 11:5-9
5And the LORD came down to see the city and the tower, which the children of men builded. 6And the LORD said, Behold, the people is one, and they have all one language; and this they begin to do: and now nothing will be restrained from them, which they have imagined to do. 7Go to, let us go down, and there confound their language, that they may not understand one another’s speech. 8So the LORD scattered them abroad from thence upon the face of all the earth: and they left off to build the city. 9Therefore is the name of it called Babel; because the LORD did there confound the language of all the earth: and from thence did the LORD scatter them abroad upon the face of all the earth.
The reason God did this was because they worked and communicated well with one another and did not include God in their daily tasks. It angered God and He punished them.
David Atkinson, author of The Message of Genesis, described in his commentary about Genesis Chapters 1-11, the story of the tower of Babel, as a sad description of the fracture of community, a breakdown of fellowship, a failure in communication, a growth in isolation and confusion.
It all resulted from a lack of communication, failure to live and depend on God and insisting on striving to reach the heavens. Instead, here begins their determination to be the source of their own security. This carries a social health warning which the world needs to hear, then and now.
We, as men and women of God, should always have our focus on God and His Word. In other words, we need to be in God's face worshiping and praising Him; not just asking what He can do for us.
God is not an ATM machine setup for withdrawals only. We can not use Him for outside transactions like a drive-thru. You need to go inside of the bank to personally interact with the tellers (the Holy Spirit), the financial advisors (Jesus Christ) and even the bank president Jehovah-Tseba'oth (which means Lord of Host -one of God’s many names). So when it comes time to get the things you need from the bank, you are already setup.
Make deposits, setup savings, IRAs, CDs and other sources that increase your credibility with your bank and they will have to trust you with their money. In other words, God is not just giving; He wants you to work for your fruit. You have to give in order to receive. If you are giving and make positive transactions in the bank it collects interest and sooner or later it is going to payoff.
So, if you are going to the bank, make more deposits than withdrawals. When you go inside the bank, talk to the person and make your name stand out so when you come back to the bank everyone knows who you are. At this point you become more than just an account number. You're a part of the bank’s family. Do a lot of business with the bank of El Elyon because if you are there in His place, He is in your place blessing and manifesting Himself to you.
I can tell you from experience that if you do not have a personal relationship with God, it is useless trying to do anything in His name. I tried to do this when I thought God had started trusting me with His things and His people.
When I joined Mt. Gilead Full Gospel International Ministries, my life changed forever. I was in God's face praying for help and growth in His Word. One thing I will never forget is when Bishop Robertson told me not to lose the fire that I had for God. The reason he said that was because a lot of believers have an inferno blazing when they find God. But sometimes, as time catches up with us, that fire starts to go down because Satan is trying his best to slow us down and keep us from receiving the truth.
I lost my job three months after joining the ministry. The reason for this was because I was at a job where I had been a blessing to those around me. Changes had started to take effect in several individuals at this job as a result. Later, a job came my way with a Christian-owned business. Because it was a Christian-based business I left my job without talking to God and praying on it seriously or waiting for an answer.
Within three weeks, I was released because the individual who trained me did not train me properly for the job. For a year and a half I struggled to keep a job. God wanted a relationship with me but it was my responsibility to keep a line of communication open with Him.
During the first two months I was out of work, I tried to go back to school to receive my BA in Computer Information and Science. However, I did not ask God if it was in His plans for my life.
Once again, I suffered because I dropped out of school within a month and a half. It was odd for me because the first time I attended college I aced most of my classes. I loved to challenge myself to learn, but this time, I did not want the challenge at all. I wondered why.
If you think the only way God is going to communicate with you is through a little voice in your head, you are going to be waiting for a long time. The Lord does speak to us in that way, but He uses people also: pastors, ministers, as well as other people who you might think have nothing to say because you think they are nobody or are not on the same level you are on. God can use a man or woman, or anything, to relay a message to you. God is like that.
It is okay to watch a Christian television program to get a daily word. But you can not depend on TV as a major source of getting fed. You must remember that not every word that comes across the television is a word for you. You should have a house of God to fellowship at and submit yourself to a men or women who will give you a specific Word from God for your life. If you are always looking to programs for God to give them a word for you, it is not going to happen because you need to be plugged into a Ministry. TV and commentaries are good, but they are not the best source if you are trying to hear from God. The best way for us to communicate is to read The Holy Bible.
Isaiah 34: 16
16Search the book of the LORD, and see what he will do. He will not miss a single detail. Not one of these birds and animals will be missing, and none will lack a mate, for the LORD has promised this. His Spirit will make it all come true. (NLT)
Let’s look at other reasons for a Lack of Communication in the Body of Christ. We must keep in mind that this lack hinders our blessings. What if you are doing the above but you are still not receiving revelation for things in your life. Do you think fellowship is important as a Christian? We as Christians need fellowship. It is healthy to exercise your voice to your fellow brothers and sisters in Christ. Fellowships release things like testimonies, new friendships, mentors and great prayer partners in your life. So if you are not talking to your fellow brothers and sisters, jump on it because you may be holding up your blessings. God may be waiting for that particular individual to pray so that blessings can be released upon you.
2 Timothy 2:22
Now flee from youthful lusts and pursue righteousness, faith, love and peace, with those who call on the Lord from a pure heart. (NIV)
As I was seeking employment, I was blessed by a man named Derrick Maye (now an Elder at The Ministry). He is one of many great men at Mt. Gilead who welcomed me with open arms in the ministry. From the very beginning, Elder Maye ministered to me about having love in my heart for the people at the job where I was released. I started walking in love toward those people.
During this time, I was blessed by God to begin working with Elder Maye. He shared many challenges and victories he received as he grew closer and closer to God. My wife and I can testify that this was a setup from God for Elder Maye to fellowship with me.
During the time that I worked with Elder Maye, he became one of my mentors. Unfortunately, I still struggled because I was depending on Bishop Robertson and other people like Elder Maye and Assistant Pastor Mitchell to solve all of my problems. I was still not truly fellowshipping with God so most of what these people were telling me I was not receiving because my line of communication with God was blocked. I was trying so hard to fellowship with man physically because I could hear and see them.
Do you realize that God really wants to fellowship and have a relationship with us? However, we have to be in tune to Him so He can minister to us. Being quiet sometimes helps a great deal. We want to tell the Lord everything that is going on and everything we need, but He knows this already.
We want to continue going on with our lives, not allowing God to minister to us during our quiet time. Your quiet time is the best time to hear from God and to offer praise and worship. Your quiet time is very significant to the Lord and should be to you also because this is the time when He can impart large sums of information into your spirit man. God can reprogram the junk and unwanted information you may have collected since the last time you may have sat down with Him.
Why is this the best time to get the most information? Because you shut up and shut off everything else around you and God will do the rest when you allow Him to work within you.
For me, this was one of the hardest things to do because of an imbalance. I had time to do everything else except spend quality time with God. I would talk to God and sometimes He would drop different things in my spirit for the purpose of ministering to me or someone around me who may need a Word. However, I discovered that the more time I spend in His face, the easier it is to help myself or someone else out of a situation that only God has the answer for.
So if you do anything, find yourself a “window of time” for God. Start off with at least 20 minutes, and then build from there. You will have your reward from doing this and from being consistent. I know, you are saying, “but I’m busy” and “my schedule is crazy too.” But who woke you up this morning? God! You owe Him some time out of your crazy and busy day.
Get your quiet time in. It will renew and refresh you.
Psalm 107:30
Then are they glad because they be quiet; so he bringeth them unto their desired haven.
Ecclesiastes 9:17
The words of wise men are heard in quiet more than the cry of him that ruleth among fools.
Matthew 6 6-8
6But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly. 7But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking. 8Be not ye therefore like unto them: for your Father knoweth what things ye have need of, before ye ask him.
Brothers and sisters, we in the Body of Christ have trouble sometimes talking to each other about the problems we may be facing. This is not good because someone else may be going through what you are going through or they may be the one who is going to help you through the valley. So do not be threatened by your fellow man. We are all here to push one another in the Kingdom. If we do not help each other how are we going to grow in the Body of Christ?
We need to grow up and stop hiding our problems from those who can help us grow and heal. The church is a hospital for the sick. You need a doctor, nurse and other staff members to help you get better. If the staff does not know the problem, how can they get the right medicine to you?
James 5:14
Is any sick among you? let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord:
One thing that we as Christians need to get into is talking and ministering more to those in the world; do not say, “I am not an evangelist and I cannot (or I do not feel comfortable) talking to strangers.” Or my favorite, “I have done my time ministering to people who are not saved. I need to talk with people who can relate to me and who know where I am coming from. I do not have time to teach and I don’t have patience’s for unbelievers. My ministry is not to the unbeliever, it is to the believer.”
Jesus shows us in Matthew 9:9-13
9As Jesus passed on from there, He saw a man named Matthew sitting at the tax collector's office; and He said to him, Be My disciple [side with My party and follow Me]. And he rose and followed Him.
10And as Jesus reclined at table in the house, behold, many tax collectors and [especially wicked] sinners came and sat (reclined) with Him and His disciples.
11And when the Pharisees saw this, they said to His disciples, Why does your Master eat with tax collectors and those [preeminently] sinful?
12But when Jesus heard it, He replied, Those who are strong and well (healthy) have no need of a physician, but those who are weak and sick.
13Go and learn what this means: I desire mercy [that is, readiness to help those in trouble] and not sacrifice and sacrificial victims. For I came not to call and invite [to repentance] the righteous (those who are upright and in right standing with God), but sinners (the erring ones and all those not free from sin). (AMP)
We need to check ourselves as we take this voyage. You see someone took the time to sow seeds and water our seeds so we can be great men and women of God. So what is our problem? I know it can be hard to open up to people about Christ, but who are we trying to please: man or God? It should not be an issue, especially if God has given you an order to speak to this person.
Matthew 5:13-16
13"You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled by men. 14"You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden. 15Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. 16In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven. (NIV)
I can testify about the fear factor or how I felt when people would talk to me about God. The few times I went out for street evangelism, I was so fearful of rejections. That really blocked me from being a blessing to those people who came around me. Satan really had me fooled with doubt about what I could give by opening my mouth to the people. But, thank God, I am free of people.
The power of communication lies within us. It is up to us to use it wisely and constantly so that those in the world can be set free by God’s grace. Also, within the Body, we can fellowship with our brothers and sisters and be blessed by the Father and our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ.
Philemon 3-9
3Grace to you, and peace, from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. 4I thank my God, making mention of thee always in my prayers, 5Hearing of thy love and faith, which thou hast toward the Lord Jesus, and toward all saints; 6That the communication of thy faith may become effectual by the acknowledging of every good thing which is in you in Christ Jesus. 7For we have great joy and consolation in thy love, because the bowels of the saints are refreshed by thee, brother. 8Wherefore, though I might be much bold in Christ to enjoin thee that which is convenient, 9Yet for love’s sake I rather beseech thee, being such an one as Paul the aged, and now also a prisoner of Jesus Christ.
