Plastic Christianity

I wrote this after seeing a poster I saw for Acquire the Fire with a picture of a stupid-looking, plastic bobble-head Jesus that said, "Don't you just hate plastic Christianity?" I loved it. This is a message for a lot of my youth group!

~~~~~~~~~~~~
The thing these days is to keep our worldly ways
While saying we belong to God.
Keeping Him hidden, like some token religion,
To me seems very odd.
You laugh with your friends, forgetting Satan wins,
When you ignore the outcast.
You play church with him when you should become his friend,
And time is running out fast.
Youíre gonna lose him.
Youíre gonna lose him.
Donít give me your plastic Christianity.
You play a game that you could never hope to win.
I say, Iíll stand with you, Iíll be your friend, but
There will be no religious social club for me.
-Donít give me your plastic Christianity.
Drop the baggage, your faith, itís not pre-packaged.
-But itís a package deal.
Itís all or nothing, youíre always gonna stand for something,
So choose the somethin that is real.
You canít get away with living day-to-day
Trying to look just like them.
Or didnít you know, if with the world you do go,
Itís hatred toward Him?
You canít have it both ways.
You canít have it both ways.
Donít give me your plastic Christianity.
You play a game that you could never hope to win.
I say, Iíll stand with you, Iíll be your friend, but
There will be no religious social club for me
-Donít give me your plastic Christianity.
Donít give me your plastic Christianity.
You play a game that you could never hope to win.
I say, Iíll stand with you, Iíll be your friend, but
There will be no religious social club for me
-Donít give me your plastic Christianity.
Out with the cliques, no more cute tricks.
Weíve seen your big fake smile for quite a while.
Itís time we learned to feel, time that we got real.
If sincerity is our mission...
Then maybe someone else will want to be a Christian.
