“Living Life in Love With Jesus”
“Being Mary in a Martha World”
Ladies, we are living in “Martha world”. No matter what our vocation in life we all fit into the Martha mold. We are so busy with the details of every day life we meet ourselves coming and going. This is not a new concept for women.

Whose house was Jesus in?
After Martha invited Jesus into her home, what did she do?
After Martha invited the Master to her home for dinner she ignored him. This seems unbelievable but look at the facts. Whether this was Jesus first time in her home we are not told, however I suspect He had been there before. As we watch this little story unfold we see some things that might indicate they were all quite familiar with each other. Martha took off preparing the meal and fussing over all the details that needed taking care of. Mary couldn’t get enough of Jesus and Martha went straight to Him to complain about it.
Would you agree that inviting someone into your home for dinner can be intimidating? It makes you vulnerable.
Think about some things you are concerned about when you invite someone for dinner?
Our normal instinct as women would be to take care of all the details that we think need taking care of, right?
If we were in Martha’s shoes, what else would we be doing but making sure the food gets on the table? After all, eating is one of the most frequent activities of the human race. Jesus was human and Martha assumed that this was on His list of priorities as it was hers. She was conditioned to take care of things like that, to take care of the family, to be active and productive.
Think about this:
Inviting God into our home is like inviting God into our lives.
At first we are thrilled that He accepted the invitation and then we get our eyes off of Him and start getting busy doing the things we think He expects of us.
We have a hard time accepting that God wants to come and live in our hearts just because He loves us. We think we have to do things to keep His love.
A baby accepts love as it is given to them. They don’t feel that they have to do anything to hold on to or earn that love, but have you ever noticed that as the child grows they begin to seek ways to make sure they don’t lose that love.
I’ve noticed lately that my grand daughter seems to try to do things to get my approval and affection.
We are like that as new Christians. At first, we are so thrilled just to know that Jesus is coming into our lives and then we get caught up in the lie that we have to work to earn it. In an attempt to please God we get in bondage over the details we think He wants us to take care of.
People get confused about who they are to God and what He truly wants from them.

Who does Jesus say we are to Him?
We are God’s friend. He no longer calls us servants.
What is God’s ultimate goal for our lives?
Read: John 17:20-23
What does verse 21 tell us that the desire of Jesus heart is for us?
The plan from the very beginning was for us to be friends of God.. to be one with Him.. to be His companions.. to walk with Him and talk with Him and to live our lives with Him. We were created to live in love with Him.
Martha thought she was doing the right things. In fact, she thought she was so right that her sister was so wrong.
What was Mary doing in our story?
What did Martha think of what Mary was doing?
What did Jesus have to say about what Mary was doing?
Jesus said Mary was doing the better thing. Even if everyone was hungry, even if dinner had to be put on hold, Jesus tells Martha that Mary had discovered that there is only one thing worth being concerned about.
What is it?
Living her life in love with Jesus. Martha was a believer and a godly woman, but she got caught up in the business and details of life. We are as susceptible to these traps as Martha, even in our Christian duties. We must be very careful to follow the example of Mary in this Martha world.
We are bombarded daily with messages that we have to keep moving, keep working, keep doing to be of worth or value.
Ladies this is not true. You are God’s treasure, the Love of His life and You need to make Him the Love of Your life.
So how can we be a Mary in a Martha world?
Psalm 34:7 NLT “Take delight in the Lord and He will give You the desires of Your heart.”
How can we take delight in the Lord?
Through worshiping God.
Worship means: to have intense love and admiration for.
If you have an intense love for “someone” what are some actions that you are drawn to take?
Get to know the “Someone” better. How do you do that?
By spending as much time with them as you possibly can. In fact, you want to be with them all the time. You want them to talk with you and walk with you and live life with you. You hang on their every word… You can’t get enough of them.
How to tell if you are Martha or Mary?
Check your joy level.
Does life seem fun or futile?
Check your attitude.
Are you like Martha, criticizing Mary to the Master?
Are you tired, burnt out and frustrated?
Check your motives.
Check to see who is in control.
Check your priorities.
How do you spend your time?
After you answer all these questions you will pretty much know if you are “living in love with Jesus” like Mary did.
Change has to start in the heart and at the feet of Jesus.
Worship Him.. allow yourself to fall head over heals in love with Him. Remember He loves You to “death”.
Worship Him.. come to Him with a worship hungry heart. Let Him be Your One desire.
Psalm 34:8 says “Taste and see that the Lord is good. O, the joy of those that trust in Him!!”
Taste and see the Lord is good. Savor Him.. sit at His feet and adore Him.
Get into God’s Word more and more. Taste it, savor it... Let His Word be His personal whispers of love to you.
Listen for His voice to speak to your heart.
Zephaniah 3:17 says: "… for the Lord your God has arrived to live among you. He is a mighty Savior. He will rejoice over you with great gladness. With his love, he will calm all your fears. He will exult over you by singing a happy song." (NLB).
Ask God to help You hear His song for you…
Express your love to him by being you and living the life that He gave you to the fullest. Take God with You into every aspect of Your life. Let Him consume You and saturate every part of His being with You. Let Him fill You with the fullness of His love.
You can do this simply by sitting at His feet.. by being still and knowing that He is God.. This will start you on the road to being a Mary in a Martha world.
