People spread rumors to make others feel sad
And to make others look or the situation to appear bad,
But God opened my spiritual eye to see
That rumors are a part of my testimony
Because when it can be witnessed of the “used to’s” in our lives,
There’s a confirmation that change, deliverance and healing has arrived.
Rumors are a way of spreading the word,
And to assure that it can be widely heard
That there has been a change in you,
And you no longer do the things you used to.
So, when you and rumors meet face-to-face along life’s way,
Speak boldly and with assurance when you open your mouth to say,
“Let me help you help me to testify”
Because I want it all to be the truth, and no part of it, a lie.
If you were bound in alcoholism,
And you’re confronted with criticism,
Stating that you were nothing but a drunk,
Tell them, “Not only was I a drunk, but also a skunk
Because I stunk with sin,
But, look at me now; I’ve been cleansed from within.”
If you were a liar, and are condemned for the things you used to do,
Don’t let the rumors get the best of you;
Stand up, and say, “Not only was I a liar, but I was also a cheat
Because cheating others out of the truth makes a liar complete;
But, look at me now, I’m walking in the light of the truth;
So, I’m thankful for being a liar in my spiritual youth.”
If you are accused of hanging out in the clubs and jukes too,
Don’t let them short you of the things you really used to do;
But, tell of how you were in the hotel, motels, and people’s home
While their spouses were gone or at home alone,
And demand that they look at you now
So that they can acknowledge and see how
God has changed you from all that they heard;
For, you are no longer in the juke joints, but in the word.
If rumors remind you of how you were on your way to hell in a hand basket,
Inform them that you were already dead, but not in a casket;
For, you were living your hell every single day,
But, you are now in the straight and narrow way.
Rumors come from people who are trying to help you testify
By telling things that they think you would deny
Because of embarrassment,
Never thinking that they have your consent
To help you testify about the person you used to be
Because from those sins, God was faithful in setting you free.
So, all of those who want to spread rumors about me,
I encourage you to help me spread my testimony.
