A man, the only survivor of a shipwreck, did his best to cope with his new station in life by building a small hut for himself on the tiny island where he was marooned. Late one day he returned from searching for food, only to discover his little hut and the last of his meagre possessions going up in smoke. At this point he about lost it- he was furious with God… “How could you let this happen? This is not fair!”
The next morning a ship, seemingly come out of nowhere, pulled in and anchored near where the man slept on the beach. He was rescued! As he was getting on the boat, he asked one of the sailors, “How did you know I was here?” The sailor replied, “We saw your smoke signal yesterday afternoon.”
Just like the marooned man, we may think the circumstances dealt us are unjust or harsh, but we have to remember that, also like him, we may not be looking at the whole picture. The God we know and love, really loves us. Though things may seem rough, His plan is always to prosper us, not to harm us.
