I was boarding the Greyhound bus from L.A to San Francisco when an elderly lady approached me. I must say she was in her seventies and she seemed to be carrying a lot of bags with her. I watched her try to chat with the other passengers boarding the bus, but they seemed least interested in speaking to her. I looked at her soulful eyes so filled with compassion and peace.
I was quite anxious that day, having taken my son to Disneyland with my mother the day before. That tour left me short of $40 in my pocket. I seemed worried with bills that consumed me back home. After all, I was just in town for a three week vacation to visit my mother. It was quite arduous to enjoy a vacation when you’re in a tight budget and when bills await you back home.
As the elderly lady approached me, she looked into my eyes, and then we discussed different matters. All of a sudden she reached out to me and asked “Do you need money”? I didn’t know how to respond. I was dumbfounded! She didn’t wait for me to answer and just reached out from her pocket to give me $40. This was the exact amount I needed. I was perplexed on how could she possibly know that this was the exact amount I needed. This left me speechless, yet very grateful to such an act of kindness.
We sat together on the 8 hour trip home and realized we both were Christians. We discussed our faith and testimonies on Jesus and Christianity and said a prayer of thanks.
Before leaving the bus, I asked her what made her approach me and give me the money. She mentioned that she saw the anxiety in my eyes and how God whispered to her that I needed such amount. I told her that I was praying earlier and contemplating on how I would get that money since I was short. Kathy also revealed that she was praying earlier that day for God to send her an angel on her travel since she had a difficult time carrying her bags all alone. I also inquired from her why she approached me among the others, and she mentioned that she saw the gentleness in my eyes.
We both agreed that God does work in mysterious ways and that there was a reason why we both met and that it was quite an encounter for both of us. We had 8 hours of shared experiences, moments of prayer and healing too.
I read a passage in Hebrews 13:2 “Do not forget to entertain strangers for by having doing so some people have entertained angels without knowing.”
After that day, I realized how God could send angels in many forms and shapes. To Kathy I thank you for that special day and indeed you were an angel in the bus, one I can never forget.
If you died today, are you absolutely certain that you would go to heaven? You can be! TRUST JESUS NOW
