Sure, I've seen these pictures before
Frightened people running for their lives
Sure, I've seen those faces of horror
Explosions and falling debris before their eyes
But there's a difference now
in the images I see
There's a difference in
that they could be me
Not rags are they wearing that are tattered and torn
but Armani suits and Liz Claiborne dresses were worn
Not tools nor weapons fell from their hands
but briefcases and purses were dropped as they ran
Not the dust of the desert was trod underfoot
but on the streets of Manhattan fell ashes and soot
This is no distant crime, no willing war,
no far away land with pain, death, and more
this is America, the land of the free and home of the brave,
that lies under rubble and on fire today.
Is there a haven, a place that is safe?
Are we in danger, even here in this state?
Where is our might, our force, and our power?
Who can we call on to save us this hour?
It's clearer to me today than ever before
the only safety is in the hands of my Lord,
so today I won't panic, I won't feed on the fear,
I'll quiet my heart and know that He's near.
For there's no place on earth that is safe
and there's no place that evil can't find,
but there's no place on earth or in heaven above
that I can't be protected by God's powerful Love.
