Why must men suffer and good folks know pain
Is the question I've heard over and over again
In the news, on TV, from the local DJ,
and from people I know came the question today
If there is a God, where is He now,
and why couldn't He stop this tragedy somehow
My answer to you is I think we've forgotten
some things about God that are very important
His view of this world is not quite like ours
Though He's nearer than air, His vision's quite far
He can see in the future, He can see in our hearts
He knows each man's weakness and what sets him apart
His eyes can see too a player we can't
The enemy of souls and his terrible plans
So a quick brutal ending may seem out of place
when a long painful illness is avoided by Grace
And the loss of a loved one seems horribly sad
as God shields a family from a wandering Dad
We know not the stories or the fates that were changed
by the horrible feats that are laid on God's name
Free will plays a hand in the card game of life
But this Dealer turns losses into wins every time
If we'll only just trust and accept His great care
there'll be life from this death, and joy for despair
