I was thinking of those tiny candy hearts that everyone buys this time of year.... they are a valentine tradition, and on each is a message, a shorthand way to make your feelings clear.
I read that they've now changed those little messages, made them more modern is what they say - exchanging sentiment for cleverness, the words brittle and bright, thinking this is much better for today.
But I don't agree, and if I made those hearts, a sweet remembrance to give to you, on one side of each would be the words 'I love you' and the other would say how this was true.
They'd be pink and green, yellow, white and blue, a profusion of glorious color, and a hundred times a day you could turn over a new one, to read my words of love to you.
One might tell you the joy you give when I feel my hand enclosed in yours, another might say in words glowing and bright that you are the husband I adore.
There are so many little candy hearts I would pour into your hands, each one holding a bit of the love in my heart, so many different ways to express the joy that I feel that you and I are one, never to part.
There are so many things to say, so many ways to say I love you, that I never could confine giving these little candies to just one day - so I'll just have to make everyday a candy heart day, full of the sweetness of the love I have for you.
