A babe in the manger,
So small and so sweet.
Laid in His mother’s arms,
Safe and asleep.

Guarded by the angels
As He walked the lands.
Tempted by the devil
But dashed not His foot upon the sands.

Tested and jeered by
Those in His own country.
Rebuked and feared by
Those who did not believe.

Baptized by one not fit
To loosen His sandal.
Declared by the dove,
“This is my Son in whom I am pleased.”

A man always in the company
Of the family of twelve.
Teaching and showing the
Words and signs for them to share.

Betrayed by one of His own,
Given up in ways liken to a criminal.
Verily I say unto you, it is best
Had the betrayer never been born.

Accused, judged, and sentenced.
Jeered, pierced, and crowned.
He walked the path to Calvary
Carrying the burden of man’s sins.

Nails bound Him to our sins,
Followers wailed at His feet.
Where is the safety of His mother’s
Arms in which He did sleep?

Onlookers jeered and cried aloud,
“He saved others, Himself He cannot save.”
He could only answer with the words
“Oh Father why has thou forsaken Me?”

And with one last breath
He was heard to say out loud
“Into your hands I command
My spirit” and He passed from the crowd.

When He was delivered into
Heaven the angels sang and rejoiced.
God suffered His son Jesus
To die so man might be saved.

If they would only hearken unto
His holy living word.
If they would only praise
His name and seek His mercy.

Turn it over, turn it over
To Him that can take it over.
Give yourself to Him, give
Him the glory due His name.

If thou doest this,
Thou shall be free from shame.
