There are many beautiful, faithful and loving Christians who love Jesus Christ and will tell you in a minute just how awesome his love is. I love the smile I see in them, when their share their testimonies and experiences with me. But what I am concerned with, is the small number of Christians who can answer the questions, “Who is Jesus Christ?” and “What is the Gospel?” There are Christians who have Jesus Christ at the root of every aspect of their lives, but can’t give a good biblical explanation of the above two questions. Now you may ask, “How vital is it?” I’m glad that you asked, it is extremely vital. Allow me to explain, there are many people walking the streets spiritually lost. Some of these people are being drawn by God to his son Jesus Christ. Some of these people are now feeling a thirst for things of a spiritual nature, such as what happens when they die, is there truly a god, if there truly is a god why does he allow bad things to happen, etc….
Now this is the cool part. God seeks Christians to use as vessels to deliver the good news to these people. But, we have to be willing; walking in a way that pleases the Lord, and studied. Yes studied. There are some of us who believe that the Holy Spirit will just continously speak on their behalves, in spite of that Christian’s sin not to study.
2 Timothy 2:15
Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a workman who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth.
These words are not followed by, “But if you forget, the Holy Spirit will fill in the blanks”. No, we are called to be able to correctly handle the word of truth. So if you are addressed by some of these seekers, the two most important questions you should be able to answer correctly is “Who is Jesus Christ?” and “What is the Gospel?”
Now this is my challenge to all pastors. Not just you, but everyone who holds a position of leadership in your church should know the answer to those questions. Not only that, but everyone who even picks up the phone at your church, should know the answer to those questions. How vital is this? Extremely vital! If one of these seekers, who is in the midst of contemplating suicide, decides to reach out one last time for attention or help, and let’s say, he decides to call your church. Well, if that person calls your church and says, “I can’t deal with life anymore, how can I make my peace with God?” If the person who answered the phone is not able to answer that question in a way that makes sense or responds with “I’m sorry, the pastor is not here right now, can you call back?” Well guess what, if that person commits suicide after that call, guess who dropped the ball, you did. You dropped the ball because you failed to instruct and train your people how to properly contend for the faith. Now I am not saying that they should know the origins of every religion there is or should memorize the whole book of Revelation. But, a person who is about to commit suicide who does not have Jesus Christ in their life does not need someone to sing a great hymn to them. A person who is about to commit suicide who does not have Jesus Christ in their life does not need someone to invite them to the next Sunday service. A person who is about to commit suicide who does not have Jesus Christ in their life does not need someone to invite them to a contemporary Christian concert. They need the life-saving Gospel of Jesus Christ. Pastors see to it that your people are up to the task to deliver the gospel. Amen.

What we need is for the Spirit of Christ to be dwelling in us. He will teach us what to say and when to say it. Romans 8:9 But you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you. Now if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he is not His.
Luke 12:12 For the Holy Spirit will teach you in that very hour what you ought to say."
So the real question is, "Are you baptized with the Holy Spirit and fire?" Matthew 3:11 I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance, but He who is coming after me is mightier than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire.
