Looking For God.

If you’re looking for God
Listen up, looky here,
This is the way that I see it,
Some say you must search,
In yourself,
In here somewhere,
There is God and it’s you,
You just “find Her”.

Some say if you serve,
Give your time, give your money,
Help the poor and the needy you’re done,
But the poor and the needy,
Need God too,
So that one,
Seems to need some more work,
Some more thinking.

Now thinking your way up to God has been tried,
Tho’ I doubt there’s been one who’s succeeded,
‘Cos just when they thought,
That they’d thought all they ought,
They thought of a flaw in their thinking.

Perhaps you could buy,
A glimpse of “The Guy”,
A peek at the Fella upstairs,
But how do you pay,
The one who created,
You have it,
He made it!
You see?

Or perhaps God’s in nature,
Our own mother earth,
Perhaps we find God in the trees?
Well I’ve looked,
I’ve seen birds,
I’ve seen bees,
I’ve seen mozzies,
But God’s somewhat bigger to me.

There is an opinion,
That searching for God ,
In a church is the only place proper,
He could be at the alter,
Or under the water,
He could be there, transubstantiated,
If you sing and you clap,
Raise your arms, speak in tongues,
If you’re there every Sunday you’ve made it.

But me, I’m not sure,
I can’t claim an answer,
That will please everybody I know,
Hey, when God came to earth,
-and despite virgin birth,
Some mistook him for John or Elijah,
His friends, even close ones
Took a while,
But they got there,
The blind could now see and it hit them,
Under the dust of creation, they realized,
The creator was there to be seen,
Jesus the man,
One of them,
One of us,
He was God in the flesh walking ‘round,

Perhaps God, being God,
Knows us well, knows us better,
Better than we know ourselves,
Perhaps the creator created creation,
Like a mirror to be His reflection,
God in me and in you,
God in here and out there,
He’s in service, in family, in prayer,
God in word, and in deed,
God in love and in need,
God in joy and also in tears,
Found in fun and in children,
God in man and in woman,
God in preacher and pilgrim,
God in song,
He’s in drums and in organ,
God in praising and mourning,
Father God,
God in Flesh,
God in Spirit,

Perhaps truth be told,
It’s harder to hold,
God at arms length and claim you don’t see him,
‘cos it seems, like the air,
God is, well, everywhere,
Those who seek, he has promised,
Will see him.
