From Adam’s fall we’ve waited, Lord,
While earth and nature grieved,
To hear the promised One, the Word,
At last has been conceived.
While waiting for the child to come,
And wound the Serpent’s head,
We’ve groaned beneath the fearful sum
Of mankind’s sin and dread.
And all the ages, dark and drear,
Creation languished low,
Were bringing man an end to fear
When God through Christ would show.
The Lamb who does God’s Word fulfil,
To banish death and sin,
E’en though the serpent wound his heel,
He’ll rise to live again!
And now we see the promised one,
has come to bring us peace,
The kingdom of the Holy Son
Shall never, never cease.
And He shall reign o’er Heavan and earth,
This seed of Abraham,
Though coming through a lowly birth,
Our God, incarnate man.
