My last three articles covered conditioning our hearts, controlling our thoughts, and being at peace within our souls. How do we maintain that peace?
Keeping peace in your heart, mind, and soul requires that you know who you are in Christ. It took me twelve years to gain that type of confidence. When I was in the world, I thought that I was, “All that and a bag of chips, Da Bomb”(slang for being beautiful). I felt that as long as I could get a man’s attention or hear his flattering words, that I had it going on. But that was all a facade and that is what the enemy wants every young woman to think.
Within the past twelve years, I longed for approval in just about every endeavor that I set out to do. When I did not receive that approval, I would get depressed, give up, and have my own pity party. I was insecure in my marriage, insecure about myself, and constantly in and out of depression. Even thinking once or twice about ending my life, I was the type of person who would suppress my feelings unless it was a feeling of anger, that was the only emotion that I would let show.
But Praise God! I now have a consistent prayer life and a constant fellowship with the Lord. By staying focused and consecrated to the Lord, I realize that He is the only One I have to live an acceptable life for. I realize that even though I am married, that I am still an individual. I love to read and write (of course), therefore, when I am blessed with quiet time that’s what I do. I like keeping my mind busy and occupied with His work, He gives me so many ideas, that keeps my mind constantly thinking and constructing. God is so awesome!
Once you decide to release whatever is troubling you to God, He will release His blessings to you. He has shown me abilities within me that I never knew that I had and He has taken the ones that I had placed on the back shelf, when I got married, and enhanced them, God is so faithful.
If you are still single and plan on getting married, please do not place your goals on hold or feel that you are not capable to use your gifts that God has given you, keep them alive.
When your self-esteem is low, stop and realize that you are somebody in Christ. We are queens, heirs of the Kingdom of God and we have a blood bought covenant with Him. You don’t have to wait for anyone’s approval, nor do you need anyone to tell you that you are beautiful. When you know who you are in Christ, you know that you have a beauty deep from within and that it will be illuminated in your Spiritual walk. When you walk in peace, others will see that peace and they will want to know how they can get it. That’s when you will have the perfect opportunity to share Christ with them.
Women of God, we have to be set apart in our character because there are many that we need to reach and they need to see the difference in our actions so that they will desire the fire within.
If you have little girls, tell them daily that they are beautiful, so that they will not feel that they need anyone else to tell them. I tell my daughters that they are beautiful and my sons that they are handsome, and that they are highly favored by the Lord. You practically have to start ministering at birth with your children, the moment that I found out I had conceived my last daughter Brianna, I confessed Jeremiah 1:5 over her, “Before I formed you in the womb, before you were born, I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations”, and I stand on this promise. She is already walking in confidence and the obedience of God. Each one of my children have unique God given gifts and so do yours.
It may appear that I have derailed the subject, but, when your heart is pure and not troubled, your mind is focused on God, and you know His purpose for you and follow it, you will have everlasting peace within your soul. When we allow God to utilize us, great things will manifest, all the dreams that you could have ever imagined and more. He is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we can ask or imagine! (Ephesians 3:20)
No matter what trials or temptations occur, you will have perfect peace if you keep your thoughts on Him, knowing that this too shall pass and that He is walking you through to the other side.
