Walk with me, if you will, through the Bible, one step at a time. I want to talk about Jesus and how we will meet him every step of the way in both the Old and New Testaments. He did NOT begin as a baby born in a stable in Bethlehem. He has always existed but came as a baby in the flesh to save all mankind.
God is a spirit and carnal man can not understand spiritual concepts. Many still have trouble with that. They could not see God so did not understand how He works. If man could see Him in the flesh, they MIGHT believe so in His time. He came in the flesh and was called Jesus. Matthew 1:21 “And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shall call his name JESUS: For he shall save his people from their sins.” Matthew 1:22-23 “Now all this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet (Isaiah 7:14), saying, ‘BEHOLD, A VIRGIN SHALL BE WITH CHILD, AND SHALL BRING FORTH A SON, AND THEY SHALL CALL HIS NAME EMMANUEL, which being interpreted is, God with us.”
Yet people argue about this; a virgin bringing forth a child, calling his name Emmanuel which means “God with us”. I believe every word in the Bible is true. I do not believe under my own power---it is mind boggling---but by the Holy Spirit. I will never completely understand ALL that is written and never will until I meet Jesus in person when he reigns in his kingdom. He tells us what we need to know and when we need it. Jesus will explain everything and we have eternity to know all truths. You can learn something new every time you read the Bible.
Jesus had taught the apostles everything necessary for life and death; the way to live in the now to prepare us for life in his eternal kingdom. Or we can “do our own thing” and find company with Satan and his demons forever in hell. Jesus is telling them to trust the Holy Spirit to guide them into all truth. In John 16:12 Jesus says: “I have yet many things to say unto you, but you cannot bear them now.” They did not understand why Jesus had to die for they were still in the flesh and had not been filled with the Holy Ghost as yet. Verse 13: “Howbeit, when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into ALL truth, for he shall not speak of himself, but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and will show you things to come.”
Have you ever read a scripture, maybe several times? It didn’t make one bit of sense to you. You read it one more time and WOW, why didn’t I see that before? You were not ready for that truth yet. In God’s time He will reveal it to you by the Holy Spirit when you accept Jesus as your Lord and Savior. It is nothing new from the outside world but you receive it inwardly in the spirit of God already in you. The more you read, the more you understand.
You have a choice to either walk after the Spirit or after the flesh. There is a war going on. Paul said in Romans 8:1 “There is now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit”. Verse 9 says “But you are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you.” Now if any man has not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his.” IF and WHEN we sin (we will at times---the battle is still on but we can have forgiveness), we can’t say “I am tempted of God” (James 1:13” or even “The devil made me do it.” You are the only one who can decide to give into temptation or resist it. Verse 14 “But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed.”
I have written all the above to maybe help you understand just what we are facing as mere human beings. But as children of God, we can conquer. Only through Jesus Christ can we have this victory. In I Corinthians 15:57 Paul says: “But thanks to God, which gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.” So the more we know about Jesus and ask: “What would Jesus do?” in any situation, the closer we get to complete victory. We walk our whole life trying to follow in Jesus’ footsteps. When we fall, he picks us up.
We first meet Jesus “In the beginning God created heaven and the earth.” Elysium, Hebrew word used for God, is a plural word yet there is ONE God. Skip to John 1:1 “In the beginning was the Word (capitalized so it must be a person) and the Word was with God, and the Word was God”. Can you accept that Jesus is God by faith or be a skeptic and say that is not what it meant? If the latter, you are taking away from the scriptures.
John 1:2 “The same was in the beginning with God.” We are still talking about the Word. Verse 3 says “ALL things were made by him was not anything that was made” God spoke all of creation into existence. Correct me if I’m wrong but I see God the Father as the architect. He designed everything.
Jesus as God the Son and also the Word, CREATED everything.
It isn’t a co-incidence that in his earthly life, Jesus was raised as a carpenter. People knew him as such before he began his ministry. They could easier believe Jesus could build anything. This is just an after thought. The Holy Spirit is the third part of the Trinity. He is the one who gave life to everything.
Also in the beginning, Genesis 1:2c “and the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.” The meaning of move is “to set to keep in motion, to live or be active in a specified place.” The Holy Spirit has his part in creation. He is also the side of God who keeps things in motion. He keeps stirring everything up.
I can see the Trinity like a triangle. God, the Father, is at the top. He remains there to rule and keep His eyes on His creation. Psalm 33:18 “Behold the eye of the Lord is upon them that fear Him, upon them that hope in His mercy.” Jesus, the Son, comes down from the Father represented by the right side of the triangle. The bottom represents his time on earth, beginning with his birth to his resurrection. John 1:14a “And the Word was made flesh and dwelt among us.” Matthew 1:21-23 “And she shall bring forth a son, and you shall call his name Jesus; for he shall save his people from their sins. Jesus (2424 in Greek) is Jehoshua) In Hebrew 3091 is Jehovah-saved. It is a combination of 3467 (self-existent or eternal) and 3068 meaning to free, deliver, bring salvation. Christ (5547) means anointed.
Jehovah (God) saves; Jesus saves. Are there two salvations? Joshua (Jesus) is eternal. How can Jesus be eternal or self-existent if he is just a man? .Matthew 1:22-23 “Now all of this was done that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet (Isaiah 7:14) saying, Behold a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is “God with us.” I repeated myself. It was predicted in the Old Testament and was fulfilled in the New. Search the Bible and you will see many prophesies in the Old and fulfilled in the New. Some are yet to be.
During the time Jesus taught the disciples about the gospel, he used parables. Before his death, he spoke plainly to them about his death and resurrection. He knew he would die and he knew he would rise again. John 16:28 “I came forth from the Father, and am come into the world”. Again I leave the world and go to the Father.” John 17:1-26 is Jesus’ prayer to his Father to keep them in his name. Verse 4 & 5 “I have glorified you on the earth: I have finished the work which you gave me to do. And now, O Father, glorify me with your own self with the glory I had with you before the world was.” He was never just on the scene when he came as a baby. He always was and always will be.
After his death and burial, JESUS SHOWED HIMSELF ALIVE BY MANY PROOFS. For forty days he spoke to them of the things pertaining to the kingdom of God. He told them to wait in Jerusalem until they received the Baptism of the Holy Spirit. Acts 1:8-11 “But you shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you; and you shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth. And when he had spoken these things, while they beheld, he was taken up; and a cloud received him out of their sight. And while they looked steadfastly toward heaven as he went up, behold, two men stood by them in white apparel; which also said, “You, men of Galilee, why stand you gazing up into heaven? This same Jesus, who is taken up from you into heaven, so shall come in like manner as you have seen him go into heaven. That means us, too! What a glorious day!
In this way, Jesus closed the triangle but the Holy Spirit is free to travel between heaven and earth. He is the promised comforter to help us to follow Jesus. John 14:16 & 17 “And I will pray the Father, and He shall give you another comforter, that he may abide with your forever. Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive because it sees him not, neither knows him, but you know him; for he dwells with you and shall be in you.” What a promise! We are never alone. May God bless you!
