Poetry
Jesus, why did you die for one such as this?
I am a woman who is a worthless, misshapen hunk of clay?
I am not worthy of the blood you shed
Nor for the thorns that were pushed in your head.
I crucified you when I went my rebellious way.
Jesus, why did you let them nail you to the cross?
Why did you leave your home from above?
I had no care that it was all for me.
I was too blind; I could not see
The pain, the shame you bore out of love.
I can’t blame the soldiers who flogged your back raw.
“Father, forgive them; they know not what they do.”
Jesus, these are the words you spoke as you hung on the cross.
Not to believe why this was so, would be my great loss.
Hell, my fate unless I repent; the same for you and you.
I am not worthy; nothing worthy in me.
I shed bitter tears as I bow down in shame.
I am the one who crucified you; I take the blame.
I am the one who should be hung on the cross; only me.
Thank you, dear Lord, for loving me so.
I am never alone; you stay by my side.
The price you paid, I can not repay.
I’ll take up my cross and follow each day.
I’ll love you forever; in you I’ll abide.
Jesus, why did you die for me?

Ah Joan - the question that none of us will really ever be able to comprehend. But praise God for His grace. This brought tears to my eyes in the third stanza. It hit my heart. Well done. The only critique I'd offer is that in the second stanza you switched half way through from speaking to Jesus, to speaking about Jesus. It was a little confusing at first, particularly as the rest of the poem is all as almost a prayer to Jesus. The confusing part really starts in the line, "The words Jesus spoke ..." and continues through to the "the same for you and you." But other than that, it was very good. Welcome to FaithWriters.
