I'm not talking about Santa Claus, but in a way I am. I recently saw the movie Elf. In the movie, Santa's sleigh has a meter that goes up when people believe, when the Spirit of Christmas rises and so does his sleigh when people believe. This month many people have been talking about those who want to remove the words Christmas and make it illegal to say or use it. The majority of us get outraged to hear that and we say... Christmas,Christmas,Christmas,Christmas,Christmas,Christmas,Christmas! My son and I were talking about it, that we should put Christmas on everything. No one is going to stop us from remembering Christ and why we celebrate this time of year. We had the Idea of having a big red van called "the sleigh", cruise to the inner city and hand out Christmas gifts - to look for those who seem down and spread some Christmas Cheer into their lives. And tell them about the real meaning of Christmas - Jesus.
This Christmas I want to encourage you to try and reach out to someone less fortunate. We all have problems and things that discourage us. Some are facing very hard situations right now. There are situations that discourage me at this time. I know I just need to believe and God will take care of it, but sometimes the situation seems impossible. Or even if we know God will take care of it, the situation is still no fun at the present time.
So how can we reach out when we are facing trials ourselves? I've often heard it said that when we are feeling down, we should do something to help someone else that is down. I think this is really true, even though it can be very hard. We need to pray and wait on God for sure, but I think we also need to act. In spite of the pressures around us, we can do something for someone else. I'm going to try it, how about you. Will this be a Christmas you remember by the presents, the money, the decorations, or will this be the Christmas you remember because you stepped out of your situation and helped make someone else's life better.
I guess what I'm saying is lets do it. Let's not let another Christmas go by with unbelief rising and people going untouched and unhelped. Let's raise the meter so some people get off the ground. Lets hold each other accountable to this, you email me what you did and I will email you what I did. I have some idea's but not sure what I'm going to do yet, but I know I need too.
Let's do something to raise the meter in peoples lives, Jesus Christ is coming to town this Christmas.
