We played in 'rocky bottom streams'....
(THAT 'wonder-world' was free!)
The minnows, tadpoles...crawdads
Were there for ALL to see!
We'd seine a school of minnows,
And sell them off for 'bait.'
Then catch a turtle....or a frog....
Or on a trout....we'd wait.
Beneath the water's surface.....
Shy 'creatures'....lurked and hid,
While we disturbed aquatic worlds
By simply being....kids!
Our folks 'supported' our forays,
Our exploits...they would greet!
(Just grateful for the time we'd had
To soak our dirty feet!)
But time has....other plans...for all,
Our destinies....we find.
But still....a 'rocky bottom stream'.....
Flows gently....through my mind.

Incredible!!! Brings back, oh, so many memories of my own childhood. Things I tried to relate to my children, as I raised them in a large city. They simply had no way to join 'my world.' Sometimes I fear these days of 'real living' are nearly gone. For living in the country now, those pleasures hold no allure for the children on this day! A sad passage....but a 'wondrous' reminder. Truly, I lived them again through your words. God bless!
