Uncommon colors fill the sky,
Rare shades and hues....SUNSET!
And light recedes to dusk.
It beckons night scenes to appear
(And their sudden arrival
Says they were already near.)
Brightness becomes golden...then RED!
Soon it will be violet...then purple,
Just before the indigo of nightfall.
The moon, with its full-featured face
Grins and gloats at having the 'upper hand,'
At being the icon of the evenong,
At being the 'feature presentation'
For light and.....romance!
Rest for the eyes, ease for the body
And release for the spirit....
(Fatigued by the day's labor)
Crave the interlude of slumber...
Contemplating the ecstasy of that languor!
Each 'phase' of a day has its 'quirks'...
Its strengths and powers,
Its concerns and consternations....
Its limitations!
Daylight screams for a respite
From the sameness, the redundancy,
The monotony of a time that was
Unrewarding....fruitless.
Night time awakens fears, omens, threats
And brings it own...disorientation!
Its shadows, its hazards. its ominous
Darkness!
(And we wish for the gracing of the dawn.)
Oh, for an occasional ALL day of contentment!
Light time....rewarding!
Night time...absent of fear! Then.....
String MANY such complete days together
So that I might live in anticipation,
That I might EXPECT...THAT level of continuous peace.
And with that expectation. learn to create
Within life...the serenity
From which springs such calm.
Is it the sunshine? Is it the moonlight? Or
Is it within ME to produce such....or
Must the Source from which ALL Light emanates
Be invited in...to participate?
To do that act of majesty in my behalf
That I am unable to accomplish on my own?
And so, in dusk or dawn, sunlight or dark
With YOUR Presence...MY destiny mark.
On fair day or foul, in turmoil, in peace,
Assure my soul, that YOU hold its 'lease.'
That stress (an imposter)...fear, a figment so mere
Have no place with YOU present, that SUBSTANCE so near.
Thou, Source of our Light, that sustains on our way,
WELCOME! Into MY life! Bring YOUR glorious days!
Teach me....Lord to EXPECT them,
And show me MY part
To KNOW joyful living
With YOU in MY heart!
ALL day.......EVERY day!
