I think I might have caught a glimpse of an angel in the night.
While sound asleep, I felt a bump at the foot of the bed. Instantly awake, I saw a figure standing there, the size and shape of my husband Howard, except it wasn't a dark silhouette. It should have been, since we have a rosy little night light on the shelf across from the foot of our bed. This figure was all white, without any features, and was bent as if he were pulling the blanket down to cover our feet.
Glancing over to check if Howard were still in bed (he was), when I looked back to the foot of the bed, all I saw was the rosy night light. I felt no sense of fear, wasn't at all startled, just curious. I went right back to sleep and remembered it as fresh as it happened to tell Howard about this morning.
Now, isn't that encouraging! Like the song goes (I should check youtube for a link): "Fourteen angels 'round my bed!"

Now, I'm also wondering if praying outloud in a whisper as I'm falling asleep at night might have something to do with "opening" my eyes to see, even briefly, into the heavenly realm. One recent night, starting to pray the 23rd Psalm, I had trouble recalling the order of the verses I've known by heart, quite by osmosis from hearing it since I was in my highchair. Since the first things we learn are the last things we lose, I've decided to include this Psalm in my nightly review, to keep it fresh. Then I follow it with my grandparents' bedtime prayer we always prayed when at their house:
"Another day is at its close, its joys and sorrows spent. Another night of sweet repose unto the earth is sent. In Thee, O Lord, my trust I place, no change can Thee befall. My days and nights, filled with Thy grace, by Thee are numbered all.
"Safe in Thy keeping let me be when daylight fades away, And gladly will I worship Thee when dawns another day. If death this night should summon me, O Jesus be Thou nigh! Grant that I rest, secure in Thee, whether I live or die." *
To this I'm adding another prayer, recommended by niece Kara for her sister, inserting her name into Psalm 91: "Deanna dwells in the shelter of the Most High..."
We are covered by such blessings, and not just our feet - Hallelujah!
Love to all,
Eda
