Below is an example of a daily prayer of confession based on 1 John 1:9. Feel free to pray this prayer word for word or use it as a reference for your own prayers.
Lord God,
I thank you for your promise in your Word that when we confess our sins you are faithful and just to forgive and cleanse us. I thank you that this promise is true for every person who trusts in your son Jesus, who came and died on the cross to take the punishment that we deserved, and was raised to life. Please forgive me Lord for… [can include any specific sins here]… as well as for any sins I may have committed today unknowingly. Free me from all the shame of my wrongdoings. Please change my heart and help me to be truly repentant. By your Spirit please give me the strength to turn away from these sins and to live for you, as you continue to conform me to the image of Jesus.
Amen.
