The Way to 'Eldorado'
Would (that I COULD) a moratorium on passing time declare;
Impede that ravenous appetite that devours my years.
Erodes my being, leaving in its wake...weakened organs,
Aching joints...and graying hair!
I seek NOT the fountain of eternal youth...
(ONLY a postponement of the inevitable)
To a more convenient...accommodating time
When goals have ALL been reached.
A time I'd have (at least) SOME power to choose.
Too many years I have lived...(in far too short a span)!
Too little time remains for the consumation of MY plans.
Eldorado continues to elude my searching eyes;
The "Mountains of the Moon" are behind me...and soon
"Down the Valley of the Shadow" I must ride.
But must the trying...and the searching be for naught;
When with all strength and honor...the battles have been fought?
NO. It is with head held high into (even) THIS valley I shall go.
This IS the trail...(for which I have searched)....
The Way to Eldorado!

A brave soldierly poem. I identify particularly with your second stanza. I keep hoping I will have enough time to do so many things. What a great poet you are.
This was really good, thanks Rhonda
