The Supernaturally Normal Christian Life
In April of 2010, two customers came into my job and told me that Jesus was still healing the sick today. But not only that, they also told me that Jesus used them to heal the sick in their home church too! I could hardly believe what I heard. “Is Jesus really still healing the sick today, and is He really using these two people to heal the sick?” I thought.
The only way to find out was if I decided to go to their church to see what was going on, and I did. Eventually, not only did I learn that Jesus still wants to heal the sick in the church, but he also wants to heal people who could care less about God. Walmart is one of my favorite places to go to demonstrate the Kingdom of Heaven on earth.
Some years ago I went to Walmart because the Holy Spirit told me that I would see a man there in aisle seven wearing a blue hooded sweatshirt. That was really hard to believe since the weather that day was about 85 degrees (29 degrees Celsius). As soon as I walked into Walmart and looked in aisle seven, I saw one man wearing a blue hooded sweatshirt, and it freaked me out!
Since this was my first time actually praying for someone in a grocery store, I was very nervous, but I told the man that God told me I would meet him at Walmart. The man chuckled a little and told me that he didn’t believe in God. Then I got a word of knowledge from the Lord, and I said to the man, “I feel God telling me that your family is not very close, but he wants to bring your family closer together, and I feel strongly that you have that desire.”
The man's facial expression changed immediately. Then he said, “You know what, you’re right. I’m not close with my family at all, but I would love to be closer to my family; I think about that a lot. I don’t believe in God, and I don’t know how you just did that, but that’s pretty crazy.”
Healing, prophecy, and the gifts of miracles are not fairy tales of things that happened a long time ago, but they’re real, and Jesus still uses us to operate in that same power and authority today. The people who see the least miracles today tend to be people who were born and raised in first world countries.
The reason we don’t see as many miracles happening today isn’t that God isn’t doing miracles anymore, its because we’ve idolized wisdom, in first world countries, and removed God from the picture. A God who doesn’t perform supernatural miracles isn’t God, but a figment of our imagination. Even Jesus said, Do not believe me if I do not do the works of my Father. But if I do them, even though you do not believe me, believe the works that you may know and understand that the Father is in me, and I in the Father (John 10:37-38).
Jesus basically told us that if we don’t believe that He died on the cross for our sins, if we don’t believe that He is the Son of God, and if we don’t believe that He’s the only way to Heaven, to at least believe Him for demonstrating the Kingdom of God on earth through miracles, signs, and wonders. While miracles are obviously not the focus of the Christian, life, Jesus told us that if He doesn’t perform miracles, we don’t have to believe anything else He says. The normal Christian life is a life not only filled with a passion for the lost and broken people, but it’s also a life filled with supernatural power and authority to bring healing to those people.
Love isn’t just words and it isn’t just saying wise things to impress people. It actually has to look like something that makes a tangible difference in people’s life. That’s the kind of love Jesus has for us, and that’s the kind of love we need to demonstrate to the world.
