"Now I am about to go the way of all the earth. You know with all your heart and soul that not one of all the good promises the LORD your God gave you has failed. Every promise has been fulfilled; not one has failed. (Joshua 23:14)
On October 05, 1997, upwards of over a half million men met together as "Promise Keepers" in the Washington DC mall, for a day of hymn singing, prayer, repentance and pledges to cleanse their personal lives, rededicate themselves to their families and work for radical reconciliation. And thank God, I had the distinguished privilege of being there among this vast group of dedicated "Promises Keepers" who made their promises to God and man.
Have you ever been a party to a promise made to an individual or to your Heavenly Father? If so, was your promise answered and was it kept? Can you just imagine our heavenly Father receiving over a half million promises, in one day, from men of all walks of life at this gathering in Washington DC. Don't we serve an awesome God?
Now, before you post your pending promises on your fridge, on Facebook or Instagram, make sure these promises fit your Christian life style. Make sure they are specific in scope, and not just general principles to observe.
And if a particular promise and related scripture verse comes to mind, ask yourself why and what is its purpose for your life. Most importantly, will submitting to this scripture and any subsequent promise fulfill God's will for your life?
Be cautious in utilizing a particular promise simply because you may want God to act a certain way. Our promises to God should be to help us submit to His will, and not bend His sovereignty to ours. (Matthew 18:20)
Did you know that the Bible is full of God's promises, promises to carry us through when we need help? According to an unknown source, there are over 3000 promises in the Bible. The word promise itself occurs over 50 times in the King James Version of the Bible. It would probably take a lifetime and then some to develop a Bible study around these Bible promises. So let us review just a few of the more significant ones.
First, a secular definition of the word "Promise: Assuring someone that one will definitely do, give, or arrange something; undertake or declare that something will happen.”
Now, a Bible definition of the word "Promise: "The promises of God reveal his particular and eternal purposes to which he is unchangeably committed and upon which believers can totally depend.” These promises are, however, conditional upon obedience on the part of believers.
The first Bible promise is found in (Genesis 3:15), "And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and hers; he will crush your head, and you will strike his heel." This was fulfilled in (Galatians 4:4) (Luke 2:7) (Revelation 12.5).
And the last Bible promise is found in (Revelation 22:20), "He who testifies to these things says, 'Surely I am coming quickly.' Amen.”
What makes these promises of God so important and permanent to our Christian lifestyle is that God is absolutely trustworthy (Hebrews 6:13-18) and unchanging. (Psalm 104:1) He cannot lie. (Titus 1:2) And being our eternal living God, He has all power to fulfill all His promises. (Isaiah 55:11)
The main doctrinal promises of the Gospel come as a result of God's eternal sovereign will for our lives, those doctrinal principles being the foundations of our Christian faith and practice. They are the full Gospel (1 Cor 15:1-4), God's plan of Salvation (John 1:12) (John 3:16) (Galatians 3:22) and the indwelling of God's Holy Spirit. (John 14:26) (Luke 24:49) (Acts 2:1-4)
Someone once said, "We are not promised confidence in the circumstances of our Christian faith and belief, but we are promised confidence in the God of our circumstances.”
How then may we know the promises needed from God's Word? We have the promises of the peace of God (Psalm 85:8) and the joy of God. (Psalm 16:11)
Yes, our blessed heavenly Father has promised to:
Give us wisdom if we ask. (James 1:5)
Provide a way out of temptation. (1 Cor. 10:13)
Secure our salvation no matter what. (John 10:28–29)
Never leave us nor forsake us. (Heb. 13:5)
Finish the good work he has begun in us. (Phil. 1:6)
Come back for us. (Luke 12:40)

Author's Postscript
We now live in a secular and cynical age. But between the world and His sovereign Word, His Word is more real today than ever before. His Word and His promises are truer than the world, and they are sure and stronger than all that may come against us. (Ephesians 6:11-12)
You see, God's promises are something He always keeps. (Psalm 89:34)
Yes, His promises were, are and will always be "Yes and Amen." (2 Cor 1:20)
He will always remember His promises to you, my friend. Simply search and find a promise in His Word that applies to you, stand on it, and live day by day in its path. (Jeremiah 30:31) (II Cor 1:20)
