As Jesus approached Jericho, a blind man was sitting by the roadside begging. When he heard the crowd going by, he asked what was happening. They told him, “Jesus of Nazareth is passing by.” He called out, “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!” Those who led the way rebuked him and told him to be quiet, but he shouted all the more, “Son of David, have mercy on me!” Jesus stopped and ordered the man to be brought to him. When he came near, Jesus asked him, “What do you want me to do for you?” “Lord, I want to see,” he replied. Jesus said to him, “Receive your sight; your faith has healed you.” Immediately he received his sight and followed Jesus, praising God. When all the people saw it, they also praised God. Luke 18:35-43 NIV
Do you realize that we were just like this blind man? We use to sit begging, begging for real truth and purpose to life. Then Jesus came by and our heart cried out for His mercy. We were humble and He came and dwelt inside our heart. We then were given spiritual sight through the power of the indwelling Holy Spirit. When we came to Jesus, He asked what we wanted Him to do for us. We knew we needed our life to be different, we needed Him to be at the center of our being. Jesus did not let us down, as anyone who comes to Him with a humble heart, truly seeking His mercy, shall receive abundantly from Him. When we first called out when He passed by, the world tried to steer us away, rebuking us, lying to us, saying that what we really wanted was what the world could provide. But, through our experiences in life, we had seen through the lies of the world. We decided to turn to Christ. The world cannot provide that which Christ can provide. When we turn to Christ, it is the beginning of our faith journey. Christ brings us into the family of God. Christ knows our heart and knows that that there is faith there which needs to be awakened. Through His love, compassion, and mercy for us, He opens the door unto us, and provides us with guidance so that our faith can be nurtured.
Now that we have received spiritual sight, we must follow Christ, just as this blind man did after being given his physical sight. We must praise God for all that He does for us!
