The Pharisees, who loved money, heard all this and were sneering at Jesus. He said to them, “You are the ones who justify yourselves in the eyes of others, but God knows your hearts. What people value highly is detestable in God’s sight.” Luke 16:14-15 NIV
Often we find that we need to justify our actions on specific decisions which we make in life. In Jesus’ time, the Pharisees loved money. To justify their love of money, they sought approval in the eyes of other men. That sure was taking the wrong path. Why did they not seek God as to their choice? They did not choose to seek God because they knew in their hearts they would not find the approval they sought. So, they sought the approval of man, those whose desires are of this world. What the Pharisees failed to realize was that they could not avoid God by not seeking Him out on the love of money. No one can hide from God. God knows the heart of each of us. We will all make an accounting for our life and the choices we have made. Those who think they can avoid this are very foolish.
Those who desire that of this world, will find it to be detestable in the eyes of God. To please God, we must turn away from that which is of this world, and give our all to Jesus Christ. When we truly turn our lives over to Him, we will be molded into the being which God wants us to be, and we will then do what pleases Him.
There is only one in whose eyes we should want to be justified, and that is God. Seek what pleases Him and receive many blessings.
