Then Jesus said to his host, “When you give a luncheon or dinner, do not invite your friends, your brothers or sisters, your relatives, or your rich neighbors; if you do, they may invite you back and so you will be repaid. But when you give a banquet, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, the blind, and you will be blessed. Although they cannot repay you, you will be repaid at the resurrection of the righteous.” Luke 14:12-14 NIV
Herein Christ warns us to not give to others, seeking repayment from them. When we give to others we are to do it cheerfully, lovingly, and without a thought of being paid back by them. We are given many blessings by God, and He asks that we provide blessings to others. The ultimate payment for those who give freely from the heart as Christ tells us will come when we leave this earth. Sure, we do receive blessings now, but consider the eternal blessings that will come to those who follow the Lord. No matter what we give up in this life, it in no manner can measure up to the eternal blessings which await us in heaven.
Trust Christ. Take Him at His word. Why should you not? Has He ever failed to keep His word? Give freely and unconditionally, for eternal blessings await!
