CAN JESUS FIT INTO A SODA CAN
We have purchased a new refrigerator that has all sorts of neat conveniences, particularly the soda can holder in the door way. It has seven slots for seven cans. As for Soda, I usually only drink them if I am out to eat or on a summer day grill out. I am more of a tea and coffee drinker if anything. Since the refrigerator has the slots; it seems like a waste not to fill them and keep them filled. Well, from a family who only went through a six pack of soda on a summer day or a grill out and who hardly ever had soda in the house, we are going through a 24 pack every 5th day! Amazing when you think about it!
It got me thinking...”what else in life do I keep filled just because someone thought it was in MY best interest to put the slots in for me?” With out question life goes by as we fill out offices, our storage sheds, and our houses because we have extra space. We fill our lives with chaos simply because we dare not leave a slot empty! Spiritually, Satan loves to "refurbish" our spirits and make available all kinds of empty slots to fill. Just think about what we fill our normal days with: the junk our ears to listen to, the hurt we let come from our lips, the thoughts we dwell on, the actions we do and take just because the slots are there. We automatically make sure they are always filled with something. It makes us feel complete for awhile...in control and filled up! But where does it end? Once you take a soda from the slot, it is again empty. Over an over a vicious cycle, if my refrigerator were a spirit how satisfied would it be? Sodas do not last, just as the things of this world do not.
Think for a moment about how we are controlled by emptiness! Our gas tank is empty so we fill it. Our cabinets are empty so we stock them. Our linen closet is empty so we stuff it. Under our Christmas trees are empty so we pack it so full that you can no longer see the rug. Our sinks are empty until we fill it with dishes, only to empty again. We fill our cups with drink because they are empty. We fill our tubs with water because they are empty. We fill our hearts with hate because they too are empty. Let’s not forget our spirits; we fill them with false feel goods because they are empty. We fill our minds with terrible thoughts because they are empty and we fill our soda slots in our refrigerator because they are empty! How long can we keep this up?
I guess I will wait for a spiritual soda, one that lasts and fills up all the slots. A soda that I can drink and never be thirsty again. This brings us to my question: “Can Jesus fit into a soda can?”
