Some who have walked the Path of Life before us have said,
"Grace comes into the soul, as the morning sun into the world." (Thomas Adams)
And somehow we know this will be true...
For what Darkness
is not dispelled by the fresh hope of the Dawn, when the Beauties of Sunrise
vanquish the Chill of Night.
Yet, Human Hopes and Dreams have boundaries;
and no matter how passionate the encouragement of friends...
no matter how sincere our own efforts to receive them...
common Words of Comfort sometimes hit those boundaries the hardest:
"Night is darkest just before Dawn" ..."There is a Silver Lining behind every cloud"
"Weeping endures for the Night; but Joy comes in the morning"
"For everything there is a Reason"
Yes, we will always struggle to move through the fog. ...But in Sorrow's aftermath,
the 'dawns', the 'silver linings' the 'joys' and the 'reasons' often fall headlong into the
bog of our Natural Limitations...
And we will feel Despair and Loneliness... Again and Again.
But after deep sorrows have ravaged our undeniably frail human souls,
we can still look above them...above our own strength, ...if we will,
To the Author and Finisher of our Faith;
Faith that is not caught in the Web of Limitation that binds us so firmly...
...to what we See and to how we Feel.
For there is One Who comes with Peace and Light to heal our wounded hearts and to calm our spirits. He, the Lord of All, is the sure foundation upon which we can build again...
With confidence that there is an eternal source of comfort far beyond human supply;
One Whose Mercies are New Every Morning;
Whose Grace is always Sufficient; ...Whose abundant Strength bears our weakness;
Whose Light brings new and lasting Hope; ...Whose Peace brings complete Rest;
And Whose still, small voice
speaks ever clearly through our frequent tears and gnawing pain:
"Be still, ...and know that I am God."
...this is the stillness in which we will find
Strength for each day; ...and in this place alone,
Time will pass with less pain...
...And restoring our souls.
