Her eyes are old
but her mind still gathers
words with loving flavor,
sprinkles them over heartaches
like seasonings.
And each day her eyes
do not find the shadows
but her smile spreads over
the darkest corners of souls,
shakes loose the cobwebs.
Her eyes cannot sharpen
the images in view
but her arms can savor
the hurt in a child,
erase every grain of bitterness.
For God has seasoned her
through the bitter and the sweet;
now we taste His greatness
through her spiritual eyes.
