“Who Shall Separate Us?”
By
Calvin J. Moss
Romans 8:35 says: who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine or nakedness, or peril, or sword? As it is written, for thy sake we are killed all the daylong. We are accounted as sheep for the slaughter. Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that first loved us. For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord. My question to the brethren is who shall separate us from the love of Christ?
We live in a world where we are fighting an invisible enemy who seeks to stop us at any cost. He will use all the tricks that he has been using since the beginning of time to detour us from God. He will use your relatives, friends and of course your spouse. As I write this, I recall when Job was being tried by the devil that his wife said unto him Dost thou still retain thine integrity? Curse God and die Job 2:9. I believe that we must be a hardheaded generation of Christians whose sole primary purpose above all is the kingdom of God. The world is growing darker, evil is increasing and the devil has but a short time. I write not to give him glory but to add to his gloom. Glory belongs to God. See, the adversary feels that our weak spots are our spouse, family, friends etc. but our faith is not based on people or events that occur in our lives. It is based on Jesus Christ the chief cornerstone who died for our sins and nothing shall separate us.
Christ has done too much for us to turn back now. The price has been paid in full. We owe it to our souls to remain in hands of God. We must not be shaken by the power of evil. Satan is coming to test our commitment to God but we shall not be separated! Jesus said to peter in Luke 22:31 Simon, Simon behold, Satan hath desired to have you as wheat: but I have prayed for thee, that thy faith fail not: and when thou art converted strengthen thy brethren. We need to strengthen each other because we are all linked together. Satan wants to divide and conquer marriages, families and the Church. Our minds must be made up that matter how high the flood rises we shall not be separated from the love of Christ. Nothing that we can see, hear, feel, taste or smell should be able to deter us from the love of Jesus.
The only separation that should be is the separation from the world; a dying world that is rapidly fading away. It is amazing for people to think that they can live in this world separate from God. Life was not meant to lived without him. The air that we breathe and the food that we eat are supplies from God as well as every other necessity. You may even hear that people who are smart have college degrees. Not so. People who are smart have Jesus. Separation leads to eternal damnation. A fool is he who thinks he can live life separate from the God who created life. That life is in Jesus Christ.
So the Apostle Paul wrote: for I am not persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of Christ. Paul did not say some things he said no thing. Shall tribulations? Principalities? Powers? Creatures? Nay. We are dead to these things and alive to the Righteousness of God in Christ Jesus. Who shall separate us? Amen.
