“You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you so that you might go and bear fruit—fruit that will last—and so that whatever you ask in my name the Father will give you.” (John 15:16)
I hear comments like “I Found Jesus” or “I came to the Lord”. There are other similar comments made by people who know the Lord. But, Jesus said that we did not choose Him, but He chose us. Jesus makes the invitation for us to come to Him. It is our choice to either choose or reject that invitation. We must always remember that it is by the mercy and grace of the Lord that we are connected to Him.
We as believers cannot just sit and relax in our knowledge and relationship with Christ. Why is this so? Because He has appointed us. He appointed us so that we might go and bear much fruit. What is the fruit that we can bear? Through Christ, we can be His vessels. He will provide us with what is need in order to bring the Good News to others. We will each be given gifts by the Holy Spirit to use in spreading the Good News. We can aid in advancing God’s kingdom. And Jesus makes a promise to us. This good fruit that we bear will last. If we do the work of Christ, the effects of it will not fade away. By bearing this lasting fruit, we may ask and receive through the name of the Lord. Remember our request should glorify the Father and the Son. In working to do that which advances God’s kingdom and glorifies the Father and the Son, we will receive. We have been appointed as the harvest is ripe but the workers are few.
What Jesus promises, He delivers!!
