While we were on a trip to the Lawton-Fort Sill area, a friend of ours who lived in the area took us to the Mount Scott, Medicine Park area. We drove for a little more than an hour and finally stopped on a narrow, dirt road. Our friend explained, after about a 10 minute drive, that from there we had to walk every step of the way up Mount Scott to get to its highest point. The clear, blue Oklahoma sky was so bright it was difficult to make the trek up top without a good pair of sunglasses. Just when I felt that I could not take another step, a thick black cloud just appeared out of nowhere to give us a little comfort and shade as we made our way up to the top.
After scaling Mount Scott, we drive our car around toward to Medicine Park that is opposite this mountain. Then we came around to Medicine Park where Native Americans in the area for many years went seeking the peace, tranquility and medicinal affects of it waters. It was so lovely. Never had I been so taken by the way God lavishes His beauty on certain places in this world.
Before we knew it, it was time to leave and our friend led us away to go back to Shawnee. One can imagine how surprised we were when after just a few minutes of walking and driving around we came to recognize how close both areas actually we to each other. Then we asked: “How beautiful was the Medicine Park area. So why did you take us up to Mount Scott first? Why didn’t we go to the Medicine Park area first, relax and get eat something then go to Mount Scott first?”
Our friend responded with a big grin, There is an old Spanish saying that says that nothing in life is appreciated so much as the path you must struggle for first.”
