Before Participating in a race, the runners make sure they have proper training mentally and physically. They train on a daily, weekly basis. Some have mentors or coaches to help them reach their goals. Prior to the start of the race, each runner makes sure that he or she has on the proper gear that will help ensure a good chance at winning the prize. Each runner has a competitive spirit and is hungry for the win. They have spent countless hours getting in top mental and physical condition! They are or should be fully prepared to race for the victory. In this case, he who is fastest wins.
We as Christians are in a race that is not so much physical or mental but spiritual. I write to tell you that you got what it takes to finish your race. You got what it takes to finish your race. A physical race is similar to a spiritual race. A difference is that we are not competing against one another. We are competing against an invisible enemy. An enemy who seeks to throw stumbling blocks in our path at every chance. Hoping that we would be stumped. In a physical race, the competitors may know something about each other. Our competitor, the devil or satan knows all about us and our past. He will stop at nothing to bring it up. We as runners in Christ must not only be mentally and physically in condition but more importantly spiritually. Our training is not only for a season but forever because evil is always present. In addition to this, our training begins the moment we awake until the time we retire at night.
There are no breaks, holidays or vacations. In fact, when we go on vacation Jesus comes with us! We also have mentors or spiritual fathers, mothers; but our greatest mentor and coach is the Holy Ghost. He is the one who helps us reach our goals in Christ. He is our keeper. We cannot keep ourselves. He is our protector, deliverer and redeemer. Thank you Jesus! In this race we must have on spiritual gear. Ephesians 6:14 said we should have our loins girt with truth and having on the breastplate of righteousness. Verse 15 says that our feet should be shod with the preparation of the Gospel of peace. Verse 16 says we should have on the shield of faith wherewith ye shall be able to quench the fiery darts of the wicked. Verse17 says and take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the spirit, which is the word of God. We will win the race according to our usage and knowledge of our weapons of warfare that are not carnal but mighty through God (2 Corinthians 10:4).
See, when we have these things on and use them daily we move closer to the prize that is the crown of life. The devil knows there is a prize but he does not want us to get it. He wants us to get the lake of fire. We must be hungry for the crown of life and consistent. The power of evil cannot withstand the power of good. No matter what you have done or what people think of you, you can finish your race. Our faith enables us to finish our race. First John 5:4 says for whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world even our faith. Our fortune is in our faith; and our faith is in God. So unlike a physical race, this Christian race does not go to the fastest but to he who endures; and if you fall you can get back up again and keep running. Amen.
