Prayers
Praying to Overcome Stress
Hi Faith-writers, I thank God for another opportunity to share His Word with His people. We are going to consider the application of prayer toward what we all encounter and that is, STRESS! David made two short Prayers when he was under some extreme Stressful situations. I’m going to share these Prayers. Then we are going to look at some of the reasons we allow ourselves to become stressed out.
The First Prayer Psalm 119:25 NKJV
My soul clings to the dust; revive me according to Your word.
The Second Prayer Psalm 119:28
My soul melts from heaviness; Strengthen me according to Your word.
Is that it?
You may be wondering, IS THAT IT? Yes, that’s it! David was a rich King who could buy anything and go anywhere he desired to bring him happiness when he was stressed out. But obviously, money was not the issue. The issue is when we experience so many pressures of life that it becomes overwhelming to the point that we can experience a mental breakdown. David said, my soul melts from heaviness; strengthen me according to Your word. (Psa. 119:28 NKJV)
Stress is
There are several applications of stress;
1. Stress can be an importance, significance, or emphasis we place on something. In other words, the more we give it the attention that it may or may not require the more it could bring us the added pressure.
2. Stress can be caused by word or a sound we hear that has a relative force designed to annoy us.
3. Physically stress can be an applied force or system of forces that tends to strain or deform a body. Stress causes headaches and ulcers and other medical issues.
4. Mentally stress can be a state of mind that’s filled with extreme difficulty, pressure, or strain about a situation were facing.
Different Translations
The amplified, New American standard, and the New International Version gave us different words in Psalm 119:28…
My life dissolves and weeps itself away for heaviness…AMP
My soul weeps because of grief…NAS
My soul is weary with sorrow…NIV
So whether we are experiencing, grief, sorrow, emotional meltdowns, and extreme heaviness. The solution is not money, medication, alcohol, or some other pacifier that will bring pleasure to the body. We need relief in our soul…our mind…our emotions. And there is no physical substance that can heal the soul. Only God can heal the soul. Only God can heal our minds. He heals the Broken hearted (Luke 4:18 NKJV)
According to Your Word
Now, perhaps we don’t know the Word about God healing the Broken hearted (Luke 4:18 NKJV)
Or that Jesus was wounded for our transgression, and bruised for our iniquities, or that HE carried our griefs and sorrows in what’s called the Divine Exchange (Isaiah 53:4-5/ Matthew 8:17 NKJV/ AMP)
This is why David Prayed this way…My soul melts for heaviness; Strengthen me according to Your word. (Psalm 119:28 NKJV)
We don’t have to be Bible scholars to tap into the Healing Power of God. All we need to do is Believe a simple verse of Scripture. Faith (Bible Faith) comes by hearing and hearing the word of God (Romans 10:17 NKJV). So, the more we hear how David Prayed this Prayer to overcome stress…the more we will come to believe that God can hear our prayer as well, and deliver us from the heaviness or stress we are experiencing.
The Bible is an application Book. It’s not filled with a bunch of laws more than it is a Book of clear instruction of how to be blessed by God. These Prayers work! I pray them all the time and then I experience the peace of God again in my heart and mind.
Most of the things we stress out about anyway usually turns out to be nothing that serious in the first place, if we allow time to pass. The situation(s) usually works itself out or God usually turns things around toward our favor. So the best solution is to Pray like David.
My soul clings to the dust; revive me according to Your word (Psa. 119:25 NKJV)
My soul melts from heaviness: strengthen me according to Your word (Psa. 119:28 NKJV)
Once we Pray this believing God’s Word… the Power of God will revitalize our beings and refresh us with HIS Divine Presence and Power to walk by Faith and not by sight of our circumstances and in a few days the stressful situation will disappear—until the next challenge. Then we could pray it again and again. For future challenges and experience real time victories in Christ Jesus, Amen. May God grant you courage and faith to believe these Prayers and experience your personal Victories in Jesus’ name, Amen.
