The "ole parsons" once said, "I am ready to go to heaven, I just don't want to go today. I haven't finished my chores, milking the cows and feeding the chickens".
Yes, we all have loved ones, who have gone on to be with Jesus (2 Cor 5:8), who we long to see again in glory. So, will we, and will we be able to enjoy their company once again ? Yes ! We will know, even as we are known (1 Cor 13:12)
And the Bible tells us we will see Him (Jesus) as He is (1 John 3:2). Just as Jesus was recognized after His resurrection (John 20:16) (John 21:12), we too will know each other in heaven. After all, why wouldn't our loving God, want the best for His children ?
There are many examples in scripture, to support this theory.
--- King Saul recognized Samuel (1 Samuel 28:8-17)
--- David declared he would know his son (2 Samuel 12:23)
--- Abraham, Lazarus and the rich man recognized each other (Luke 16:19-31)
--- At the transfiguration, Moses and Elijah were recognized (Matthew 17:3-4)
The Bible further says that just as our earthly bodies were of the first Adam, so will our resurrected bodies be like Jesus Christ (1 Cor 15:47). You see, our perishable bodies must be clothed in imperishable rightness, and the mortal with immortality glory (1 Cor 15:49,53).Thus a heavenly likeness, to our current bodies.
Will grandpa continue to tell us those same stories of his youth? Will we again eat grandmas famous banana pudding ? Will we sing in the choir, and not be turned down for lack of a melody ? Well, I'm not sure if all our earthly mannerisms will carry over into heaven. We may be too busy eating that tasty never spoiling "heavenly manna" (Psalm 105:40), and casting our crowns (1 Peter 5:4) at the feet of Jesus (Revelation 4:10-11).
According to the scriptures, in His resurrected body Jesus still had the characteristics of His human body (Matthew 28:10) (Luke 24:17) (Luke 24:8-39) (John 20:16-17). He was still able to preach in the flesh (Matthew 28:18-20). He was still able to physically give instructions (Acts 1:4-8). That after His resurrection, He was still concerned with mankind (John 20:15-17) (John 20:19,21,26 ), He was hungry and ate (Luke 24:41) (John 21:10,12), and He was physically able to recall and relate the past (Luke 24:44) (John 21:18), So, yes we will also have these traits, in our changed bodies.
However, we must not forget the main theme of heaven, that of "Praising and Worshiping the Lord. We will rejoice ever more, in the company of our loved ones, just being able to be with our loved ones, enjoying the pleasures of heaven for all eternity.
Author's Post Script
Now, since we know we will have our human faculties in heaven, what will we be doing. Not flying around on big wings, and playing a Harp, I presume, as I get air sick. and can't play a note of music. Not to worry ! We will be too busy learning of God (Romans 11:34), as he reveals all the hidden secrets (Colossians 2:3). And any further anticipation about what we shall do in God's "glory land" , will be far surpassed when "the King shall say (Matthew 25:34).
With all the evil, that is old world has mustered (Ephesians 6:12), I have just one parting request (Revelation 22:20).
