The Fathomless Tide
Sometimes in the rolling tide it seems
That no one truly knows the sea,
I sit and watch as the ocean dreams
And the billows all roll over me.
The waves go out and the waves come in,
The tide is either high, or low,
But in the breaker's stormy din
I hear my life's swift ebb and flow.
The tide will not remain with me,
Though in vain I grasp its foamy crest,
But must recede to the soundless sea
And take away what I thought best.
Like waves, we're torn by tides so deep
Then left at the shallow water's side,
But, though we stand on shore and weep,
We cannot change the fathomless tide.
Then, once again a wave will come,
From out of the ocean's boundless store,
With blessings from God in the low tide's run,
His gift of love on a golden shore.
For the goodness of God is a sea of its own,
Around the lives of those in his love,
And through the pain that filters down,
He brings us grace and joy from above.
